04.02.2013 – Mack, Jack & McConaughey (MJ&M), the joint fundraising effort of actor Matthew McConaughey, recording artist Jack Ingram, and Texas head football coach Mack Brown, announced today that Grammy Award-winning artist John Mellencamp will headline its Gala Night on April 11, 2013 as part of MJ&M’s inaugural, two-day event in Austin, Texas. Opening for John Mellencamp will be Austin’s very own Dale Watson.
So, Ms. Lafayette are you heading down to Austin ?
This thread on JM was getting a bit dusty so I thought I would post this before Lefty makes his annual contribution to the thread. 😆

Yes! Thank goodness for frequent flyer miles and sharing hotel room with friends. Unfortunately, a small disappointing hiccup has occurred. We purchased GA standing room tickets on the floor. We were puzzled a benefit show would have such an arrangement as the VIP tables were positioned on the mezzanine level. Tickets went on sale weeks ago. We were just notified, via email, they were reassigning our tickets to the mezzanine level based on time stamp of purchase. I assume the VIPs will be placed on the floor. We were miffed but what’s a super fan to do? Roll with the punches. Life is too short. The good news is I can take more time exploring Austin (inaugural trip!) and less time standing in line to be up front. My visit will be 2 days.

That’s a great quote Lafayette.
Lucky you, two days in the music capital of the world. Why, they even have regular live music performances to greet you in the airport terminal.
Bring an umbrella if you are arriving on April 10th but the next 2 days look like all sun and low 80’s as per the Weather Channel forecast.Enjoy JM’s performance and exploring Austin.
It’s a given for a report and photos when you get back.s.v.p.lwj

Outstanding reporting Lafayette.
I enjoyed your pictorial travelogue to Austin with Kool captions.
The “Chicken Dance” video complete with another faceoff on stage between Troye and Miriam brought back fond memories of Windsor.
So glad you “Mellonheads” had a great time exploring Austin.lwj
April 21, 2013 at 2:33 pm #42839LafayetteParticipantIt was a great trip, lwj.
It seems I chose the show to attend between the two charity events John performed the past few weeks (he played an event last night for Bob Costas’ SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center). Last night’s show was much shorter than Austin.

June 14, 2013 at 8:49 pm #42841LWjettaParticipantUnbelievable Lafayette. Just yesterday under my Angela Perley post I was hoping Farm Aid 2013 was in reach for moi.
Just got the JM newsletter.Only 474 km (295 miles) to Saratoga Springs,NY for Sep.21/13
Usually they don’t announce the location until later.
Maybe, just maybe I’ll get to see you and your DH again.
I’ve been to the Lake George,Saratoga Springs area many times.lwj
June 14, 2013 at 9:13 pm #42842LafayetteParticipantOh, lwj, I hope you get to go, HOWEVER, I am going to pass on this year’s event. 😯
I’ve looked at air fare, hotel accomodations, plus cost of tickets, and to make a long story short, the cost of air PLUS flight time, and more importantly, outbound choices on flights, are not conducive for us.
I will be watching the feed [hopefully] from home.
September 17, 2013 at 7:07 pm #42843LWjettaParticipantCongratulations Lafayette to volunteer for Saratoga Springs.
I’ll certainly be tuned in to the Farm Aid webcast this Saturday and maybe will spot you at the press desk or in the 1st 5 rows to watch Amos.
I received the email two weeks ago from Amos on his new CD presale which interestingly had a Toronto, Ontario address, alas I’m not eligble for the immediate free download in Canada.
How many Farm Aids will this be for you ?lwj
September 17, 2013 at 8:19 pm #42844LafayetteParticipantThis will be my 9th Farm Aid in the past 10 years. The only one I’ve missed since 2003 was the 2004 Seattle location, the only one Lucinda played. West Coast travel is difficult for me to do from a time frame stand point.
I doubt you see me at either the press event or in rows 1 – 6 this year. I opted to not go the VIP ticket route and our seats this year are in Section 12, towards the back of the lower pavilion.
Here is a picture I took at the 2008 press event. I also worked the 2011 press event.
If I could caption this it would be: “Hey, John, look. A crazy one – over there!” [Some of the Mellenheads reference themselves as the Crazy Ones, from a song of same title with lyrics: ‘she’s got backstage access and she’s dancing in the aisles.’ Of course, the song isn’t about crazy fans, instead it’s, as my sources tell me, a song about Mariel Hemingway. Rumor has it JM was involved with her while filming “Falling From Grace.”
September 17, 2013 at 9:30 pm #42845LWjettaParticipantGreat story behind the photo Lafayette.
I hope you and your DH have a great time this weelend in NY.lwj
September 23, 2013 at 4:05 pm #42846LWjettaParticipantHope you had a great time at Farm Aid Lafayette.
What did you think about Saratoga Springs ?.
I certainly enjoyed watching most of the event on Saturday evening via cyber-space technology.
The stage backdrop scenery was great with everything from dark clouds to fire.I thought Troye and Miriam’s 2 or 3 minutes playing so well together was a highlite intro. to JM’s “Rain on the Scarecrow”. You can tell these 2 are in sync.
It must have been very touching for JM to introduce “surprise” guest Pete Seeger.Amos Lee was on before the live broadcast but I did find a You Tube of “A Change is Gonna Come”
Gotta love his fashion report-a very well worn jean jacket and a ball cap.lwj

November 6, 2013 at 12:45 pm #42847LeftyParticipantTime for my annual post on this thread, CB…
WILL ROCKERS COMBINE TALENTS ON CANVAS?
For years, musicians have joined forces on numerous projects. Many have written and recorded songs together. Some have shared the same stage jamming out a few songs. Still others have teamed up at benefits supporting a common cause.
Now it looks like Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp may be heading into a new area of collaboration in the art world.
Mellencamp says he and Dylan want to do a painting together. That might be the first time two rocker stars have teamed up for such an endeavor.
Mellencamp made the comment during a press conference at the Howland Branch of The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. He was there for the opening of the first ever museum exhibit of his paintings.
Dylan is the reason he is putting his artwork on display, Mellencamp said.
“Bob stopped by the house and said what are you going to do with all these paintings? You should put them on display somewhere for people to see, said Mellencamp. ‘I responded, Why?’ Bob said, ‘People come out to see my work.’ I said, ‘That’s because it’s you. Why would anyone like to see these paintings?’ He said, ‘Well, I like ’em.”
“Does anyone really want to see them? There are great paintings in this world and I’m still learning.’ He goes, ‘Put ’em out.’ Bob’s really the one who talked me into it,” Mellencamp explained.
Dylan is currently working with metal sculpture to explore the concept of gates. But don’t look for Mellencamp to venture into that medium any time soon. “I have a tough enough time with a brush and canvas,” he said.
Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones have also displayed painting at The Butler Institute of American Art.
The Paintings Of John Mellencamp will travel to the Museum of Art-DeLand, Florida, where it will view from October 16, 2014 through January 4, 2015. Plans are being finalized for the exhibition to travel to additional museums.

November 6, 2013 at 6:23 pm #42848LafayetteParticipantGreat minds think alike, Lefty. I was going to post this article (for you) after seeing the Bob Dylan mention (and inspiration). All these articles are being posted from interviews he is doing to promote his art show opening at a museum near Youngstown, OH.
I look forward to your annual JM postings. 😀
