You scooped me, lwj! I was predisposed all day Saturday with two productions of Beauty and the Beast at my son’s junior high school and missed the announcement!
After looking at the schedule (he is deep north, at points, on this leg) the two shows that are closest have me at odds. The Sarnia show works best for me, HOWEVER, it’s a festival and I’m not sure how easy it would be to get close to the stage (a priority [for me] with Mr. M). Checking the website, however, has me pondering. It has a gates open at 6:30 p.m. tag. Have you ever attended this festival before and have the 411?

March 26, 2012 at 4:06 pm #42795LWjettaParticipantHey Lafayette half the fun is planning and anticipating the concert.
I’ve never attended a Festival concert at Cenntennial Park in Sarnia, ON but have driven by. On the shores of Lake Huron with a marina and large campground adjacent.
Here’s a pic of a concert-capacity is approx. 20,000[attachment=0:26w2kc4l]Centennial Park Sarnia, ON.jpg[/attachment:26w2kc4l]
So, lets look at the Pros. and Cons. of John’s two Ontario venues on his cross Canada tour.
SARNIA July 13- a triple bill outdoor venue with GA tickets (you can bring your own lawn chair) only $49.99, VIP preferred unlicenced $79.99 and VIP licenced $99.99 some chairs available.*****These are the prices listed for July 14th with Iron Maiden & Alice Cooper-don’t know JM’s pricing yet****
Cinci to Port Huron, MI / Sarnia, ON 6 hrs.for you
Niagara, ON to Sarnia, ON 3 hrs. for me
I’ve found a B&B in Sarnia a ten minute walk to the venue. approx $90.00 and they have a pool.
Lots of hotels in Sarnia / Port Huron to choose.
Would be a great opportunity for meeting you and your hubby once again.
OSHAWA,ON July 15 at the General Motors Centre-capacity 5,000-no real great seats in a hockey arena.
Cinci to Oshawa approx 9 hrs.(over your limit)
Niagara to Oshawa 2 hrs. no need for me to book accomodation.I’m leaning toward a nice outdoor, crowded July concert in Sarnia.
lwjMarch 26, 2012 at 9:00 pm #42790LafayetteParticipantOkay, thanks for the footwork. I know you are a proponent of the B & B’s and I was ready to dismiss this leg of the tour as most hotels were running much more than I want to spend. Agree with the travel time to and from. Will be sans husband as the kid will actually be returning from a high adventure trip on the 14th (of July) from Northern Tier, along the Canadian border. http://www.ntier.org/About.aspx and husband will be the greeter from said trip, provided we don’t get any emergency calls before the trip ends.
So, thanks to your added leg work, I’m in, HOWEVER, will probably be doing the VIP experience, if available, since this is my only solo show.
I had ruled out the last show, between nearly 9 hours plus crossing the border, it would be a long ass trip and we leave for vacation the day after I would be getting home. Good grief, age is becoming a factor. 😮
March 27, 2012 at 10:36 pm #42791LWjettaParticipantWe’ll have to wait Lafayette for ticket sales for Sarnia on April 7th. They are now listed @ $49.,$79., and $99. plus fees. Not too bad.
Looking at hotel prices right now, they are about 1/2 of July tourist season prices.
I looked up the Northern Tier web site for your son’s canoe adventure in Scouting along the Minnesota border with Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario. Absolute true wilderness greets him.
That will be a great experience for him- so much better than a lot of kids texting, video games, hanging out at the Mall, etc.Looking forward to JM’s show and I just might spring for the VIP ticket.

April 2, 2012 at 1:18 am #42786LafayetteParticipantI’ll go for the ultra VIP if it is $99.

April 3, 2012 at 11:02 pm #42797LafayetteParticipantPre-sale for VIP and regular tickets for Sarnia, lwj. Unfortunately, I will be in Atlanta. I guess I’m not leaving until 10:00 a.m. and I hope I can get on business computer to buy my ticket. Two VIP areas, one including alchohol sales. Wheeeee!

Will you be able to get here by 5:00 PM? 😯

April 4, 2012 at 1:01 am #42796LafayetteParticipantOoops…should have clarified, tnt. The presale starts on Thursday. After taking a look at the website again, it looks like VIP is a general admission type ticket but limited in quantity. I’m going to try to score using my phone, that is providing I’ve hit the pavement before the sale begins. It’s all dependent on how long we burn the midnight oil tomorrow evening. 😀 So, yes, I will be there by 5:00 p.m.!
April 4, 2012 at 1:05 pm #42788LWjettaParticipantLafayette, I hope you and tnt enjoy the Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.
Re: Sarnia-JM’s ticket prices are the almost the lowest of the entire festival. Now at $39., $69. and $89.
Hope you get on that computer tomorrow.I had mentioned earlier that the Cowboy Junkies will be appearing before JM and now a third band-the Sheepdogs is also listed. They too are a great Canadian band and won three Juno’s (Cdn. equivalent of the Grammys) last weekend in Ottawa. Best New Group, Best Single and Best Rock Album.
So, it should be a great summer evening in Sarnia. Are you also heading North to Cleveland for JM’s honour to induct Donovan into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame ?
Safe travels to Chez Tracy.

April 5, 2012 at 4:29 am #42787tntracyParticipantWOW! “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” was FANTASTIC! VERY entertaining! I am so glad you could come to Atlanta & see it with us, Lafayette!

April 5, 2012 at 2:33 pm #42799LWjettaParticipantCertainly a tricky procedure to get the pre-sale password of better for the Sarnia show.
I just went for the cheapie general admission of $39.00 and I’m sure I can find my way to the back of the licenced VIP area to say hello, Lafayette.

April 7, 2012 at 4:55 am #42800LafayetteParticipantlwj – I went for the unlicensed VIP at 69.99. Drinking at concerts are not a priority for me [tonyg and stoger just hit the floor]. I almost forgot about the ticket sale, remembered around 11:30 and purchased using my phone on the drive home from HOTlanta. I sure do love technology! I would like to get the room booked. Is the bed and breakfast still on your radar?
WOW is my sentiment, too, TNT, on “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.” I’m so happy you and Sarah joined the Mellenheads. Absolutely fantastic! The set, the music, the cast and crew. Really well done. A project spanning 12 years finally came to fruition for JM and Stephen King and it exceeded my expectations. I want to see it again and can’t wait until the story/music comes out on CD.
With it being the first night of preview week, all the major players were there, including JM with Meg Ryan, Stephen King, & TBone Burnett.
All in all, I saw each one of them, even running into Meg in the hallway outside of the bathroom. She was just ambling around, by herself. After the play, I told her how fantastic the show was. She called me sweetie as I approached her. 🙂 I saw TBone during intermission, and Stephen King was seated close enough that we were turning around gawking, and he also was in the lobby after the show. Fun night. JM showed up right before they kicked us out of the lobby. I groveled for a photo op, he complied. Oh, and I had to laugh when I told him the play was excellent and he replied by telling me we (mellenheads) all think anything he does is excellent.

Well, as an “unbiased” observer, I can vouch for the veracity of your opinion! 😉

April 7, 2012 at 3:49 pm #42802LafayetteParticipantTnt ~ “The Shape” from “Ghost Brothers,” aka Jake La Botz, is a blues musician and is FB friends with Lucinda and Greg Garing. Interesting back story.

April 7, 2012 at 4:52 pm #42803LWjettaParticipantA great read on your Atlanta trip, Lafayette.Thank you.
Another photo of you and JM to add to your collection.
The play sounds great, I read somewhere that some members of John’s band are in the performance.
Here’s a review of the first night preview of the show.http://www.vulture.com/2012/04/stephen-king-john-mellencamp-ghost-brothers-of-darkland-county.html
I haven’t really started an in depth search for Sarnia or Port Huron accomodation yet but I’ll keep you posted.
I should have gone for the unlicenced VIP ticket. Maybe I can upgrade if one becomes available. 😆lwj.
