Have faith punchdrunklove, I am sure that TomO is working hard on the dates,
and as usual he will let us know on here ASAP.Like you I check in each and every day hoping to see some news about Europe.
February 9, 2012 at 12:03 am #48907TOverbyParticipantUnfortunately I have some updated info in regards to Europe -not all good but not all bad either. There were several reasons but Lucinda won’t be in Europe in the summer or fall. The biggest reason the summer Olympics which promoters are afraid of competing with.
I would say however that we are close to confirming two shows in London in early November. More news as I have it.February 9, 2012 at 7:18 am #48908dr winston oboogieParticipantNot the news we wanted to hear and really disappointing, but again thanks TomO for the early update,
London in November may be difficult for me, but at least I now know I have something to work towards, again an early confirmation would help to make the trip a reality in my case, hope it works out that I can fit it all in, as usual appreciate the time you take to keep us up to speed TomO.February 11, 2012 at 4:49 am #48909punchdrunkloveParticipanti thought about this for 2 straight minutes — how the olympics could be prejudicial to an artist’s tour — and couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation. maybe london but why anywhere else?
and it’s not like any edition of the olympic games other than the glorious one from 2016 is remotely important to disturb an artist’s tour itinerary.

The underground is bad enough at the best of times. Plus, hotel prices for a stopover would have been ridiculous. Therefore, November is good for me – even better if there will be other shows nearer to me outside the ‘capitol’.
February 14, 2012 at 2:51 pm #48911swisschrisParticipantI mean, a) not everybody is interested in the Olympics and
b) the Olympics are in London/UK, what about the rest of Europe?February 21, 2012 at 5:21 am #48912LafayetteParticipantI saw a post on Eilen Jewel’s FB page [and punchdrunklove took notice] she is opening for Lu in Sydney! It looks like it is a one off for Eilen. I would love to see this pairing one day!

There are plenty of fans who dont live in the south or large cities who love you. If you do make it over at the end of the year please, please come back to Scotland?? Plenty of good venues here for you especially in Edinburgh.
February 23, 2012 at 7:13 pm #48914BlueKoyoteParticipantHi Tom, I’d like to chime in with the other sentiments here. I live in Dublin, Ireland, and flew to London to see the 2006 and 2009 shows. I know London is an “important” gig for an Artist to do, but at the 2009 show, Lucinda commented that her 3 least favourite shows to do are LA, NY and London, due to the pressure. And by all accounts, the further north the shows in Britain, the better they were !
So bring on a slew of shows in Scotland, Ireland and the rest of Europe !
🙂

I completely agree! Similar comments in Perth. Crowds are much more appreciative ‘up north’. Bring on a Celtic tour please Tom!
February 26, 2012 at 12:48 am #48916TOverbyParticipantLet me try and answer the questions above the best I can, which will take a little bit of explaining about all the variables that go into booking a tour, especially international tours. The first thing to understand is that basically everything is dictated by the promoters. They are the ones who make the offers, and if they tell us for instance that the Olympics will create issues then there isn’t anything I can do about it, and not that I would necessarily want to, because if they say they are not going to make offers during the period of time of the Olympics then that’s it. And maybe it’s not all of them but if one or more of the key ones, such as London, can’t make an offer because of the Olympics, then that basically shelves the rest of the tour. That is because when you begin to create a tour you have to have those anchor markets– for several reasons –financial, media exposure, routing etc. Without those anchor markets, or anchor shows financially, no matter where they are, it is impossible to make that tour work. Another way to put it simply is that some shows pay for other shows. The fact is, touring Europe has gotten to be an increasingly tricky and risky proposition-especially now with the European economy the way it is. It is very expensive to take even a small band and crew over there, as a result it is very difficult to make the numbers work. Because of that the risk for everyone is raised and that is why the experienced promoters will tend to be very careful. I hope this sheds at least a little light into what goes on with booking a tour.
On that note I have given our agent the go ahead to confirm two shows in London on November 9 and 10th– I am going to start a separate thread for that with a few more details.February 26, 2012 at 12:02 pm #48917bigsubiParticipant@TOverby wrote:

February 26, 2012 at 8:29 pm #48919BlueKoyoteParticipantHi Tom,
Thanks for taking the time to explain all that. It certainly puts it all into perspective. Ultimately I’ll end up going wherever I have to to see Lucinda play, as I see it as such a privilege to get to see any of her shows. So I’ll be delighted wherever/whenever that it.
