Hadn’t heard of this now defunct band until I saw the movie “High Fidelity.”

This woman could sing from a sump pump installation manual and still enchant me.
I’m just a hopelessly smitten cheerleader unable to offer an objective review of this new disk.March 7, 2009 at 4:34 pm #32199tntracyParticipant@Lefty wrote:

March 17, 2009 at 4:46 pm #32197LeftyParticipantWillem Maker – New Moon Hand (Big Legal Mess Records, distributed by Fat Possum Records)
This guy literally came out of the woods…
“In the hills of East Alabama, Willem Maker has been honing his skills in virtual secrecy for the past decade, deciding to step beyond the bedroom demos and occasional acoustic performances. Recorded at several different locations including Memphis’ Electraphonic Recordings and at Mark Nevers’ Nashville studio, The Beech House, New Moon Hand has a full guest cast of legendary Southern musicians such as Jim Dickinson, Cedric Burnside, Alvin Youngblood Hart and many others.”

April 22, 2009 at 5:43 pm #32196derelicksParticipantA CD came out a few years ago that I think may have passed by a few people. It was Jerry Lee Lewis’, “Last Man Standing”. The Killer is in top form and he has a bunch of great guests on the record–very strong bunch of tunes too…and I’ve been pulling out some old Professor Longhair CDs just to wellcome the spring after a long winter. Check him out if your unfamiliar–the Professor was a longtime New Orleons piano man. He basically wrote the book and influenced Dr. John and Fats Domino among others. Rhino Records has some compilations and Bearsville Records has a few………….. Randy Newman’s latest, “Harps and Angels” is a strong return to form for him. It had been awhile since he put out a record…great tunes…..Tim Considine/ http://www.thederelicks.com
