He played on Lu’s recent album, Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone. He was in the Small Faces, Faces, Rolling Stones, and many other famous bands. The Faces, including Rod Stewart, planned to tour next year.
Ian MacLagan died of a stroke today in Austin, Texas. He was 69.
He was booked to do a show with Nick Lowe at First Avenue in Minneapolis tonight!
Sad news indeed.
First Bobby Keys and then this..Neither of them ever officially a “member” of The Rolling Stones, but key contributors for certain.
Bobby more so as a longtime member (since the sixties) of their touring band.Had the extreme pleasure of meeting Bobby backstage in Houston at a festival concert that we were at to see Lu.
Shook his hand and asked him when the Stones were going to fire up another tour and he said “Just waitin’ on the call man.. Just waitin’ on the call..Sad that Ian never got that faces reunion that he wanted more than any of them.
For Rod Stewart it was always going to be “next year”…
