17 Rockin’ in the Free WHoly 10:30 curfew! When Joy appears in the #12 slot during a Lu full headliner, something is afoot. I mean, the set of rockers was walking the dog, no huddle offense, full on. Lu compared this venue to one in Phoenix, which I remember as like a night club, with runway and revolving circular stage. No, Lu was not twirled and spun last night, but I think the crew had to request a static stage. As for the curfew, a PA announcer felt compelled to come on and explain, suggesting folks contact “the government” if they had complaints. Pretty lame explanation for an obvious fact, I thought. Perhaps it was also “the government” which mandated that drink sales end when Buick 6 did?
But a fine, fun night. Matt Blake with three tunes and then what proved to be a superfluous intro of “the stylings” of Buick 6, as the usual sexy female recorded voice, en francais, said much the same thing. The boys are in full form. Have I mentioned the title of their upcoming August release? “Plays Well With Others.”

June 26, 2015 at 11:50 pm #54373tonygKeymasterFrom Tom:
Was almost caught up with these -and now have fallen behind again. If anyone ever wondered whether a crowd can really lift up an artist they only had to be at the Hyannis Melody Tent. Sometimes hitting mid-tour is the “getting over the hump” part of the tour and we were feeling a little of that. Then Lu walked out to one of the most thunderous opening applause we’ve heard in a long time and it was like the crowd just lifted her and pulled her right over the hump. We all saw the big “wow” look on Lu’s face and the energy was electric. The audience literally created the show and it was a great one. If we hadn’t had a curfew Lu might have gone on for another hour.
And yes the “in the round” stage does actually spin but we decided against it—the idea of Lu spinning in a big circle while singing was one none of us wanted to imagine.
