“People Talkin'” from a five-piece New Orleans-based roots rock band? Ah yes, thanks to Hurray for The Riff Raff frontwoman Alynda Lee Segarra and her boys, last night at St. Louis’ Twangfest. She spoke of Lu’s encouragement of her (I think they met on the high seas), then launched into an electric takedown. The days of Pettibone plucking a mandolin on this one (much as I loved that version) are now long forgotten. I didn’t even give a thought to no one among her sidemen chiming in, a la Sutton, on “gossip and wagging tongues.” No matter. Rock on guys.

I do believe Lu and said front woman of Riff Raff met on the high seas.

Apparently, she has been covering “People Talkin'” for several years. This version from “Day of the Dead,” 9th ward in NOLA in 2011.

I saw them open for Amos Lee in Louisville a few years ago.
