Lisa,
I don’t think I can make it tonight (under the tent!) I even told Erika (if she remembers đ ) I would see her, however, it’s best I stay home, between going to Minneapolis and Bloomington the past week, I dont want to rock the boat at home. Maybe Stevarino could give us a report? You will have to represent (us) when you see her. Be sure to buy her a Guiness, from all here in the friendly forum.September 27, 2009 at 3:11 am #36694LafayetteParticipantErika and company pulled the crowd.
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090926/ENT03/309260028/
No bar was busier than Grammerâs, the site of Cincinnati expatriates the Heartless Bastardsâ set. There was a line through the parking lot out to Liberty Street as the rock band took the stage beneath Grammerâs outdoor tent. And when those folks got in, they discovered beer lines nearly as long. McCabe estimated the crowd between 800-1,000 people.
Now based in Austin, Tex., the Heartless Bastards are three-CDs-deep into their busy, successful career, and theyâve been touring with the Decemberists and Andrew Bird among others this year. The earlier material, recorded as a three-piece band, was reinvigorated thanks to the fourth and newest member, guitarist Mark Nathan. Lead singer Erika Wennerstromâs witchy wail is still the bandâs predominant distinction, but Nathan balanced out everything, whether adding lead runs on a pounding version of Junior Kimbroughâs âDone Got Oldâ or providing counterpoint to Wennerstromâs keyboards on âInto the Open.â

L&L Here is a short review on our gal from Sunday’s performance. (Note the reference to misery “a la LU”)
I believe the HB’s will be headlining in the near future.http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/music/entries/2009/10/04/live_review_heartless_bastards.html

October 12, 2009 at 10:37 pm #36683LafayetteParticipantFollowing is the podcast from Erika’s On Air at WNKU. I volunteered today at the studio, answering phones during the semi-annual pledge drive. John Patrick, the music host that interviewed Erika, popped his head in and told me Erika barely remembers talking to me at Lu’s reception. She told him she was pretty drunk (but she does remember talking to someone from Cincy, it was just sketchy đŽ ). I laughed and told him I wasn’t quite in the shape she was in, however, if she had seen me later in the night, I was sort of drunk, too. đ And, on a Lu sidenote, two other volunteers (there were only 4 of us) piped up and told me they saw Lu in 2003 at the Tall Stacks Festival in Cincinnati and she put on a great great show. I thought that was cool, so of course, we talked about Lu.

Thanks Lafayette -I listened to the original podcast but still have not put up my MasterCard to make a pledge to WNKU public radio. Must do this.
I got Erika’s and the band’s autographs on August 3rd, 2009 at the Kool Haus in Toronto.
Got tickets to see them again at the Kool Haus on November 11,2009, so must get her picture like I did with Lu on Sat. night Oct. 11, 2009 in Toronto to complete my souvenir collection of my favorite two great gals in the biz.
lwjOctober 12, 2009 at 11:52 pm #36685LWjettaParticipantOK, more of the HB’s-This time an interview at ACL.
Enjoy.
lwjOctober 13, 2009 at 12:09 am #36686LafayetteParticipantGood luck with the pic lwj. I was going to ask Erika the night of Lu’s reception, but I knew she wasn’t in any shape. Hopefully, she will swing thru Cincinnati again on her headlining tour next year. I would love to catch HB live.
October 14, 2009 at 10:43 pm #36773LWjettaParticipantFor Lefty, Lafayette and other HB fans.

October 31, 2009 at 5:55 pm #36775LWjettaParticipantRoad Tripp’n with the Ice Cream Man.
Following a give away of ice cream by the man at the Outside Lands music festival ( first 3 minutes of the video ) are Erika and the HB’s in a nice version of “So Quiet” complete with violin accompanyment.
http://drownedinsound.com/news/4138172
This is a high quality recording and is more or less forum filler until Lafayette reports on Lu’s upcoming appearance at the Janis Joplin tribute concert.
