Great show last night at The Troubadour in West Hollywood by Hayes Carll. Hayes said it was the most people he has played for in Los Angeles. As soon as I walked in at 9 pm I went to the bar and bumped into Ryan Bingham. Then I turned around and Hayes was standing behind me drinking some whiskey. I thought to myself this is going to be a fun night.

He played about 1 hour 50 minutes, all the songs I wanted to hear, plus amusing stage banter. Then this morning I listened to his SXSW set that I got from iTunes on the way to work and he said exactly the same stuff before and after the same songs!

If Hayes ever comes to your town I highly recommend seeing him. He is a great songwriter and a very pleasant and friendly young fellow. Bring whiskey.

Did Hayes have his band with him?

Thanks for the tour “heads up”, tonyg. It prompted me to check his tour schedule (honestly expecting it to be out West only) to discover he is playing at my favorite cheeseburger bar & grill, The Earl, in East Atlanta in July. I just ordered tickets… 😉

Yup. Bass, drums, a guitarist, and a guy who played steel, mandolin, and electric guitar. Not the same band I saw him with 2 years ago at the Mint, but great. The same band he played SXSW with.

He calls them the Gulf Coast Orchestra.
