    OMG! OMG! OMG! Thank you for that chick indulgence.

    I was just on facebook and the Americana Music Association had a photo collage of performing artists for the Americana Music Conference on Sept 9. Lucinda Williams is featured in the collage! It is a who’s who of performing artists. This is the show JM will be awarded a lifetime achievement award. He’s listed as a performer, too!

    I am making plans, if it is confirmed that Lu will play on Thursday, to attend. I don’t care if I’m sitting in the balcony.

    I’ve been trying to get to the Americana Music website to see if her name has been added and it’s down.

    TO, when you recover from tour events, could you confirm, please?

    Several of us talked to Mr Overby about this very thing tonight. Lu is presenting an award, a lifetime achievement award, but damned if I can remember to whom. 😳 Tom did say the recipient selected Lu as presenter, if my feeble memory does not fail me on that one point.

    I thought he said any performance or performances by Lu are up in the air, but I might have missed something…

    My guesses are Greg Leisz , OR Luke Lewis of Lost Highway OR John Mellencamp.
    All 3 fit nicely into Lu’s background.

    Here is the list.
    The 2010 Americana Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are:
    Wanda Jackson, Performance: the undisputed Queen of Rockabilly and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, whose growling glamour reshaped the role of women in both rock and roll and country;
    John Mellencamp, Songwriting: whose songs have influentially combined the blue collar sweat of rock and roll and the humble grit of honky tonk;
    Luke Lewis, Executive: Chairman of Universal Music Group Nashville, whose visionary commitment to the label’s Lost Highway imprint has created a home for numerous Americana greats;
    Greg Leisz, Instrumentalist: the go-to lap and pedal steel, guitar, mandolin and bass virtuoso who has enriched recordings by Lucinda Williams, Dave Alvin, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and more;
    Brian Ahern, Producer/Engineer: whose work as a producer includes seminal albums by Emmylou Harris, as well as output from Marty Robbins, George Jones, Anne Murray, Billy Joe Shaver, Rodney Crowell, Jesse Winchester and Ricky Skaggs.
    The nominees, winners and honorees will be celebrated September 9, 2010 at the historic Ryman Auditorium during the 9th Annual Americana Music Association’s Honors and Awards Show. Hosted by Jim Lauderdale and featuring a band led by Buddy Miller.

    I’m throwing caution to the wind, have booked a room for 2 nights for Nashville, and attending the awards ceremony. I wasn’t initially going to go to this event, even with it being a who’s who of Americana artists, UNTIL Lu was added. My thoughts were JM wouldn’t perform with him receiving an award, but with these types of shows you never know, right? Not to mention, he is receiving an award for lifetime achievement in songwriting. I would think he is humbled in receiving it. Now, with Lu being added as a presenter (to mystery recipient), it’s icing on the cake! Done deal. AND the lineup? Stellar.

    Thanks tnt, for responding with your “inside” info.

    So Lafayette, do you think my three guesses above might be on the money.
    Now, just as important, with all the concerts you have booked for this fall have you made absolutely sure that there is no conflict with attending the B&B’s? Bengals / Bearcats πŸ˜†
    If Stoger can stray off topic and tell us about his post concert meal at Denny’s in sandyeggo, then I too can stray.

    Yes Lu will be presenting a lifetime achievement or something like that to Luke Lewis who is the president of Lost Highway/Universal Nashville records. Out of all the artists he could’ve asked, Lucinda was his first choice and she is very honored to be able to do it. She will also be doing a song during the ceremony on Thurs (which just has to fall on the night of Vikings/Saints game). On Fri night Lu will be doing something-it will probably be a live interview with Bob Harris from the BBC with attendees able to ask questions also. Lucinda will probably do acoustic versions of a couple new songs also. This isn’t quite finalized and it could change, but more than likely this is what she will be doing.

    Thanks, TO, for the update! Helps with planning.Exciting & excellent! I’m there! Love hearing she is honored and touched by Luke’s request.

    The Bob Harris thing is very cool as well.

    In regards to the Vikings/Saints game, I have no idea if Lu follows sports, however, if she does, and the Overbys were at home, a Vikings/Saints matchup would be cause for some friendly banter, I would imagine. πŸ˜€

    lwj, in regards to my football card, so far, I think I am only going to miss one game, and that is UC’s homecoming game late October. JM opens in Bloomington the night before, and a tour opener in his adopted hometown, is not to be missed.

    I may be driving all night from Nashville or up early in the AM to make it to UC’s season opener on Sept 11. I’ll miss the tailgating festivities, but that’s okay, it will be worth it. Then, later that evening, we have tickets for Over The Rhine at Moonlight Gardens. I will probably need a week to recover.

    The awards ceremony on Thursday, according to the AMA home page, will be carried on XM radio, BBC2, & Voice of America. I, for the life of me, cannot find the XM station. I thought maybe some of the friendly forum members would be interested in tuning in. The show begins 6:30 p.m CDST.

    lwj…this has your name written all over it (to find the XM station broadcasting the show). You are, after all, a Lu super sleuth. πŸ˜€

    The Honors & Awards are presented by the Gibson Foundation. Jim Lauderdale will continue his tenure as master of ceremonies, joined for another year by Buddy Miller and his all-star house band. More than 2,000 artists, music lovers and industry executives attend the annual show, which is broadcast internationally via Sirius/XM Radio, BBC2, and Voice of America.

    lwj…do you have time to investigate? Thought it would be cool for friendly forum members to tune in, if they so desire.

    Lafayette, this is supposed to be Labour(Cdn.spelling) Day and should be a day of rest.
    However over 3 cups of coffee searching, I drew a blank on XM and Voice of America broadcast info.
    BBC Radio 2 does indicate a preview show only.
    All is not lost, Public Radio is coming to the rescue.

    This year’s Americana Music Association Music Festival and Conference takes place September 8-11th in Nashville, Tennessee. The festival includes 4 nights of performances by rising stars and veteran Americana artists in five downtown clubs around the city, PLUS the gala AMA Honors & Award Show at the historic Ryman Auditorium, featuring Jim Lauderdale and a band led by Buddy Miller. The Honors & Awards Show takes place Thursday, September 9th at 7:30pm (Eastern)/4:30pm(Pacific), and Folk Alley and NPR Music will be in Nashville to webcast this event LIVE.
    FolkAlley.com went online in September 2003, offering live-streaming music over the Internet 24 hours a day. The hosted stream is produced by WKSU-FM in Kent, OH, which also built and maintains the web site. The Folk Alley playlist is created by senior host, Jim Blum, and Folk Alley Music Director Linda Fahey and features a distinctive blend of the best of singer/songwriter, Celtic, acoustic, Americana, traditional, and world sounds.
    WKSU-FM went on the air more than 50 years ago as a service of Kent State University. A National Public Radio affiliate, WKSU airs the best in classical music and public radio entertainment programming. Folk music has also played an important role in WKSU’s broadcast history, thanks, in part, to Kent, Ohio’s long-standing connection with the folk community, including hosting the Kent State Folk Festival for over three decades.

    Well, I am told any seat at the Ryman is a good seat πŸ˜€ , however, not sure where I am sitting. I ordered online, just the other day, through AMA website. I wasnt given a seat location but ticketmaster’s tickets were row U about the same time. I saved a few dollars going through AMA site (no ticket fees!)

    You are a super sleuth, lwj! I’m doing the “I’m not worthy” wave.

    Yes –I can confirm that Lucinda will be at the AMA award show. As mentioned above she will be inducting Luke Lewis as he get honored with the AMA Lifetime Achievement award. She will also be doing a song with the house band during the ceremony. Ironically the house band includes Don Was on bass and Greg Leisz on guitar, both of course were very involved with Lu’s new record. The bandleader is the great Buddy Miller, a longtime friend of Lu’s. Should be a great show.
