They are not going to play his stupid song tonight. I hope it is permanently gone.
October 4, 2011 at 12:08 am #47123MattyParticipantWhat a great article – don’t find a lot of great music writing anymore. I cannot wait to hear this record tomorrow. Loved the writer’s description of Lu and Tom’s wedding night. That performance (along with Plan to Marry) is welded to my memory.

Somewhat expectedly, one of their three “top track” picks was “The Sermon on the Mount” by Merle Haggard… 😆

Boy, Lafayette, better mark down this one on your calendar.

October 5, 2011 at 3:37 pm #47130LafayetteParticipantI’m speechless! I hope it comes to fruition, how cool will that be?
I tried telling Lu the first time I met her that Cincinnati was rich with some Hank Williams history. Legend has it there is an apartment that held a piano, next to the studio, and Hank use to play it to work out songs. The piano was too big to move out thru the doors. Renting the apartment also meant the piano came with the rental. Reading thru this article on the history of Herzog, apparently, someone found a way to get the piano out and it now is in the studio building.
Good read on Herzog studios in Cincinnati.

And as an added trivia, King Records was also another historic studio here in the Cincinnati area. James Brown recorded there and always gave a tip hat to Cincy as the place where his career took off.
Bootsy Collins, bass player for James back in the day and Cincinnati resident, is the common denominator in keeping the history of these famous studios alive.
Thanks, lefty & lwj for the heads up!

Cool enough to drive a ways to see it – say, from North Georgia to Cincinnati… 😉 😆

October 5, 2011 at 10:41 pm #47134tonygKeymasterSo who is playing at this thing?

Sounds like it is too early to know yet – according to the article, the Cincinnati USA Music Heritage Foundation announced plans just yesterday to invite all the artists who played on the album…

However, Chez Lafayette has the vacancy sign hanging from the window.
