thanks for the welcome tom, everybody. like i said, i’m as much a fan as anyone here – and i love it when someone shares with me an experience they’ve had with one of my many heros. i was on a record once with keltner and his stories were about “leo”, “phil”, “john” (cohen, specter, lennon). that was a deeply mind blowing day for me… just remember thinking “this guy ‘was there'”!!
perhaps for some, it’ll be that much fun to hear of my experiences out with lu & cru.

bigsubi – Blake does not join the band on this tour until after New York – in Atlanta on April 29th. I wish you could come to this show so I could see you & Mercedes! Unfortunately, Sarah & I will not be able to come to the New York shows this year.

    Take care, mi amigo!

bigsubi!! Blake joins the tour on April 29th, so I don’t think he’ll be at the New York show. But I will be, and I look forward to seeing you again. 🙂

Welcome, Blake! I’ve been remiss in keeping up with the Lu boards this past week and just found out you started a thread to introduce yourself. So cool. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be able to catch you live unless some summer shows are scheduled and work out for me. I suppose I will have to live vicariously through Youtube performances. Val McCallum, singing your praises on facebook, posted this scorcher from the Feb 14 show at The Bardot. Following is his comment he posted after putting up the link to this song. Wow, you truly must be special. 6 exclamation points 😆 ” Blake Mills on slide guitar….My new fave !!!!!!”

Again, welcome! Can’t wait to see you kill it with Lu and the boys.

Welcome to Blake, but I have to ask the obvious question: why is the guitar player changing mid-tour? I can’t remember that happening before with any band. Anyhow, won’t see you tonight in Boston, but will see you in NO at JazzFest Fairgrounds and HOB-NO.

Not to speak for TO, but my understanding is that it is simply due to scheduling. Val, who played on Blessed & also toured last Fall w/ Lu, was available for this tour until only late April due to previous commitments. And Blake was just “tapped” as the new guitarist relatively recently, and he needs time to familiarize himself with Lu’s extensive catalog of songs that she & Tom pick freely from for Lu’s live shows.

I’m sure TO will clarify or correct my impressions, but, if you ask me, it was fortunate timing-wise that it has worked out as it has…

Is it true that Val McCallum is the son of David ‘The Man From Uncle’ McCallum?

Boy – he was outstanding at the House of Blues in Boston last night. Like, he was blowing people away good.

    Seems to be David’s son.

He was married to actress Jill Ireland from 1957 to 1967. They had three sons: Paul, Jason – an adopted son who died from an accidental drug overdose in 1989 – and Val (short for Valentine). He introduced Ireland to Charles Bronson when both were filming The Great Escape. A few years later, she left McCallum and married Bronson.[10

Just saw Lucinda at the Brown Theater in Louisville last Friday. Blake was on stage. I admit this was my first live Lucinda concert, so I don’t know if the new blood had the band super-energized that night or they just play this hot all the time, but my face got melted off. Awesome show…best concert I’ve seen in a long time.
