Hi people,
I have been lucky to recently rediscover Lucinda’s music again. I am listening to Sweet Old World just now. Upon finding it, i remembered that many years ago, i was lucky to get tickets to Mary Chapin Carpenters Valentines day gig in London (sadly, i can’t remember the year). If i remember correctly, a newish and charming support act was Lucinda and her band. I new almost nothing of Mary’s music, let alone this newcomer to our shores. Needless to say, both have stayed with me to some degree over the intervening years. However, i must say this album touched me then and does so again now. It’s soulfull tracks keeps me listening again and again. I suppose, like all things in life, we lose touch with something, only to have the same joy upon rediscovering it all over again.
So, many thanks Lucinda, i understand you are doing rather well now and deservedly so. I hope to catch up on your other music.
Take care,

It is my favorite of the 5 nights.July 2, 2008 at 10:52 pm #35970SkyweaverParticipantThanks for the info about that 🙂 I will try and listen to some of her other albums as well. After such a long gap, it will be interesting to see how her songwriting/style may have developed.
Cheers,

I have the LA “Lucinda Williams” night, and the other four from New York. I think my favorite so far is the World Without Tears night. Even though its not my favorite album, she and her band sounds so good, I swear its actually better than the studio Album.
Which do you think are better, the LA shows or the New York shows?
And for those that can’t buy the Lucinda William’s self titled album, just buy the live version, I’ve been listening to it more than the studio version lately.
July 3, 2008 at 9:45 pm #35972parkercaParticipantI think I like the “Sweet Old World” night so much because those are songs that Lucinda doesn’t play as often and doing so bring them to the forefront and gives them new life. “Memphis Pearl” always sounds so good on those two live albums (LA and NY). “Prove My Love” is another track I really like, but I prefer the LA show on this one.
I have both sets of shows and I always come back to the LA set. Not sure if it is the sound or the interaction with the crowd that makes them more welcoming.July 4, 2008 at 10:31 am #35973SkyweaverParticipantEven though i haven’t heard those sets, i know what you mean about preferences. Some live gigs just sound so much more together than others, whether it’s the engineer or just the mood of the audience or the band that night. That “X” factor that live music has can be truly magical at times. Some songs become greater than the sum of the parts.
I look forward to listening to some of her live stuff.
Thanks for your input, people 🙂
