Final night in Chicago: Robbie Fulks and his Pussycat Trio at the Hideout, a little joint tucked away hard by the Kennedy Expressway and a good 20-25-minute hoof from the nearest El station. Some Coltrane and B Goodman along with the country-tinged stuff, both covers and originals. Though he didn’t play “Pretty Little Poison” (no Lu in sight to reprise her studio album vocals), he did a rollicking title track off that album, “Let’s Kill Saturday Night.” Multiple songs with names of Southern states in the title. I noticed next Monday he has the Aussie Audrey Auld along, then John Langford with him the following Monday. This is a tiny club which is still booking bands this month like the db’s from North Carolina and Mike Cooley of the Drive-by Truckers.

    I leave you with this thought: Nashville doesn’t like body parts. That’s all, F _ l k s.
