It’s still up in the air but it’s looking like the 15th will now be the Pisgah Brewing Festival near Asheville NC. We’re trying to work out the 9/16-18, with Savannah and Charleston SC in the picture -but nothing is completely locked in until 9/19 in St. Pete.
TomO, thank you SO much for keeping us updated on possibilities. It really helps with scheduling travel. I had planned on flying to Nashville, but now it may turn into a looonnngg roadtrip! 😀
Also, thanks to TomT and Lafayette for the Athens pre-sale alert. 🙂
August 31, 2011 at 1:18 pm #47956toporunnerParticipantgreat ,the biggest and most centrally located town in Alabama gets nixed again…someone please tell me why a southern girl can somehow skip the whole state of Alabama on a tour yet play 2 venues in surrounding states. unreal.
September 1, 2011 at 4:31 pm #47957stogerParticipantToporunner, I should let TO answer this, but I can speak to it a bit as a native son of the South myself (and I too am disappointed and will probably see two fewer shows that weekend than I had hoped). the short answer might be–the impossibility of getting from Oxford, MS to St. Petersburg, FL for back to back shows without violating the rules of bus driver rest. (I realize this doesn’t address the Alabama issue yet) Sure they could make it overnight, but I doubt it could be done in the time frame the unions understandably demand for driver rest. So Alabama X 2 got dropped with MIssissippi X 1, the baby out with the bathwater as it were. I’ve seen Lu in Birmingham twice and was 50-50 on going to Mobile too. True, those 3 days AL/MS dates were teasers, but I never thought about the logistics until they were pulled. St. Petersburg apparently was a firm book all along. NOw I’m wondering if there will be Monday, Tuesday, Wed. (St. pete) shows back to back, with Sunday an off night. Hope not, as Sunday is still a good night for me provided the show is south central and not too southeast. But enough of that. I’m sure the ‘ham will get its day again (and was that venue by the way, ALYS Hall or something? It never sounded up to Alabama Theatre snuff.) But yeah, this is a tough loss.
September 2, 2011 at 2:57 am #47958tonygKeymasterStoger, if the tour ends at the El Rey will you come here instead of San Fran? I know a good place to eat near the theater. Tim is going to come out.
September 2, 2011 at 2:58 am #47959toporunnerParticipantthanks Stoger ,yeah i’m bummed bigtime….the last venue when she was in Bhm was The Alabama Theatre ,the best accoustics this side of The Tabernacle. i’m just afraid this will be her last tour as she has gradually settled down in her life. i’m a sentimental southern boy…my favorite Lu song is ‘Bus to Baton Rouge’….so i was really looking forward to a stop close by so i could attend on a worknite. Chattanooga has the new track 29 but when i stopped by an info booth at the Brewfest last saturday they told me it was all standing ; with a back injury and 53yrs i need to sit occasionally throughout a concert. anyway ,thanks for the reply…and the idea of Lu printing new tee-shirts is a good idea.

Instead? Instead? Can’t a man on Thanksgiving Week holiday manage both? We’ll see. Thanks.
September 2, 2011 at 5:37 pm #47961stogerParticipantMore thoughts: I think Ft. Lauderdale is a recent addition. It violates the tacit pattern of Lu not playing four nights in a row, making Chattanooga the capper there, but perhaps one of those Florida gigs is a shorter set/festival. It does guarantee Tuesday the 18th (original Oxford date) to be an off-day–and gets the possibility of a Sunday night show back in the mix (maybe a Monday one too). Tom, anything between Asheville/Black Mountain and St. pete? Thanks.
September 2, 2011 at 7:10 pm #47962TOverbyParticipantYes, Charleston, SC just added for 10/16 and there will be something on the 17th or 18th also. We’ve been trying to get Savannah but i’m not sure what the latest is on that.
September 3, 2011 at 5:47 pm #47963stogerParticipantCharleston on a Sunday night with my Monday being off work: eminently doable! As for the next two days you mention Tom, if you add Tuesday that gives Lu five days in a row, right? Superwoman there. But perhaps Monday will end up being Savannah. Do I even want to mention that a certain promoter-poster might jump in here with info? No, let’s let Tom hash it out and tell us.
September 3, 2011 at 7:59 pm #47964dariusjagParticipantLet’s do this Tom. Charleston, short drive down the road….follow the bus back home for a Monday night show in Savannah! Get a chance to show many of my friends the artist that I am impassioned about.

Count me in for Charleston and Savannah (if it happens) – both lovely, genteel Southern towns. 🙂

Indeed they are. I once heard them compared as such: “Charleston & Savannah are like two Southern Belle sisters who were both raised to be prim & proper, but Savannah is the sister who drinks & smokes…” 😉

I know Savannah oh so well. Visited in 2005 for a Mellencamp tour kickoff. The Warehouse makes a lovely hurricane. I recommend no more than 2. Three proved way too much for moi.

I would love to visit again and take in more of the city.
