I would like to start an Elizabeth Cook thread. I will go first: She was the shiz last night at Blackberry Farm. Great country voice, great lyrics, wonderful band. Somehow she got Zack Brown to play drums for her — haha 🙂 I will see her again whenever I get the chance. Favorite songs: Mama’s Prayers, Mama’s Funeral, Til Then, and the entire Gospel Plow album. Please let the thread commence! Viv
Amen, sister. And let’s not forget Cook’s spouse/guitarist Tim Carroll (who co-wrote with the late Duane Jarvis back in the day) and ex-Midnight Oil bassist Bones Hillman. As for that drummer, a mystery man indeed. . .
I’ve been listening to Elizabeth Cook’s new album, Exodus of Venus, and it’s quite good. Her songwriting (e.g.,”watch my hands turn to my mother’s…”) and band remain strong (despite the departure of Tim Carroll after their divorce) and her voice is pleasantly lower pitch throughout. Check it out! I’m also liking Margo Price and Brandy Clark — anyone have other summer listening suggestions, when we’re not listening to Lu, of course 🙂
