I just arrived home after an excellent show tonight (Tuesday, 11/22) at the El Rey. The talented Susan Marshall joined on-stage for vocals on several songs, including (??) Joy and Get Right With God. The setlist was similar to recent shows, and I will defer to stoger and tonyg for the detailed setlist. Instead of noting a setlist, I chose to socialize with a beer and familiar Lucinda fans, including Webmasta and other local favorites. More on Wednesday night…

Where was the encore break? Between GRWG & HTKFB, presumably?

Tim and I drove through the worst traffic I can remember. Every highway was locked up, rock solid. Hence we were late and just had enough time to pound one drink to calm down before Blake hit the stage at 8:40. We ran into Stoger outside and met up with Liz. Good crowd. I later noticed Jackson Browne standing about 10 feet in front of me. Blake’s solo set was all electric guitar with Butch on percussion. Butch went crazy on one of Blake’s songs.

I blanked out on when Lu took the stage; the curtains opened and there she was, dressed in black, looking fabulous. Estimated time was 9:20. Her voice was great. I thought the covers worked well. The finale of Rockin in the Free World was awesome; Lu was having a great time. I don’t know when the show ended. Late.

It was great to see Stoger, Paul from Los Angeles, Liz, our famed Webmasta Ralph, Gerald, and Tom O. I looked for Stellabluee but did not see her. I look forward to another fun evening tonight.

For anyone who gets there early, which hopefully includes me and Tim, we will meet for drinks and dinner at Luna Park, a cool restaurant on the northeast corner of La Brea and Wilshire, a few blocks east of the El Rey.

I can’t remember Tom. There were a lot of songs after the break. Tim or Stoger will shed some light on this.

Good job Tony: No evidence of your even using a teleprompting device to capture the list. You cleaned up Lu’ s grammar nicely on the Allman Bros song title too!

The break was between “Get Right” and “Don’t Let the Devil Ride,” which worked well. In effect, the shorter “set two” was a reprise of the Occupy Wall St. political songs–all covers in this case. I saw this coming when a couple of usual encore tunes made it into the set proper. Kudos to TomO here, who was loitering back of house for much of the show.

That curtain-dropping tableau revealing two members of Buick 6 was a happy start to things last night, though Butch exited after two songs and prompting Blake to plug his record title. Blake even got a request, extending his usual set nicely to encompass four originals not three, plus three great covers (Joe Tex; Bobby Charles; Lucinda Williams).

Good to see webmasta, paul, tony, tim, and to meet the other half of the power Georgia-native sisterly Lu fan team, Liz. Go Bulldogs.

Another night awaits, truly. And Jackson Browne made one hell of a quick exit during “Honeybee,” though he was intent and I’d like to think in thrall all the way up to it.

In the “for what it’s worth” department, tonyg has the song title correct here, at least according to my copy of Beginnings… 😉

P.S. I just entered this setlist at setlist.fm…

She announced the song as “Ain’t My Cross to Bear”, but I’m positive she sings “It’s Not” instead of “Ain’t”.

Then again, I had wine spilled on the right half of my shirt, and it was running down my arm, so I may not be the best source of information.

I can’t recall what Lu sings when she performs “It’s Not My Cross To Bear”, but, on the original, Gregg sings, “’cause it just ain’t my cross to bear”, yet the song title is indeed “It’s Not My Cross To Bear…”

Again, in the “for what it’s worth” department… 😀

Well, it’s not my cross to bear, I can tell you that. I will try and listen carefully tonight, hopefully before the wine kicks in fully.

But, you said the wine was spilled on your arm, tonyg. Osmosis? 😆

Most of it made it into my mouth, thankfully. It’s bumping into people that gets the arm and shirt wet.

Er, I was on your left, wasn’t I Tony? Hope I wasn’t the jostler involved in this incident.. .

    I’m a right handed drinker.

Do you want me to pick you up at your hotel?
