Eilen has just released her new album, “Sea Of Tears”. Her last record, “Letters from Sinners & Strangers” received rave reviews. Her new one includes her usual brand of country blues, but is augmented with some rock & roll. She does alot of touring and is very good in concert. Here’s a clip of what she and her band does from a year or so ago:

April 28, 2009 at 12:59 pm #39509TimParticipantfugi81, she is quite a talent with a very good band. I have tickets to see her at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA next Friday. Can’t wait!
April 28, 2009 at 8:53 pm #39510fuji81ParticipantTim, if I could talk my wife into visiting my daughter in Albany, I’d like to squeeze in that show in beautiful Lake George,NY this summer. Should be a great time at the Iron Horse. Feel free to post your review!
April 29, 2009 at 2:38 am #39511LafayetteParticipantCaught my interest. Thank ye.
May 11, 2009 at 11:11 am #39512TimParticipantI caught Eilen Jewell and her band at The Iron Horse in Northampton over the weekend. The house was packed and enjoyed an opening set by Sarah Levecque and her band, who played their own brand of country/rock/blues. After a short break Eilen and the band came on stage all dressed in black. She went up to the mic and said, “We’re not going to beat around the bush”, and launched into two great songs from the new album, Sea of Tears & Rain Roll In. She had the audience in the palm of her hand and did not lose them the rest of the night. Eilen was in high spirits and her voice was perfect. Ace guitarist Jerry Miller was incredible all night long. His lightning quick runs up and down the fretboard during his solos elicited an ovation from the crowd after each one! Jason Beek on drums and backing vocals and Johnny Sciascia on upright bass were as solid as a rock. Highlights were: Sweet Rose, Shakin’ All Over, I’m Gonna Dress In Black, Rich Man’s World, Dusty Boxcar Wall, High Shelf Booze, Fading Memory.
For the encore Sarah came out and did a duet with Eilen on Loretta Lynn’s “Honky Tonk Girl”. After this Eilen did a great version of the traditional song “If You Catch Me Stealing”, which was once recorded by Bessie Smith. It was a great night of music, and all I can say is this band has been together now for quite awhile and they are tight! They’ve just embarked on a tour which is criss-crossing the States. In September & October they will be touring throughout Europe. If they come near your neck of the woods check them out.May 13, 2009 at 1:24 am #39513fuji81ParticipantTim,
That settles it, I’m off to Lake George this summer! Thanks for the review.May 13, 2009 at 2:58 pm #39514TimParticipantGreat to hear that you’ll be making it to Lake George, Fugi81. It looks like a great setting there and Eilen and her band are at the top of their game. I’ve heard they just had two great, well-received shows in D.C. and Raleigh. It’ll be a bit of a trek for me, but I’m considering it also.
July 29, 2009 at 5:21 pm #39503TimParticipantI didn’t make it to Lake George, but Eilen & her band have been getting rave reviews on their tour of the U.S. This is one hot band! Their “Sea Of Tears” album is the best I’ve heard this year.

Tim, I gotta thank you for “hammering away” at us 😉 on Eilen Jewell. I’ve seen your posts in this thread in the past, yet, for whatever reason, I never got around to checking her music out. When I saw your post today calling Sea of Tears the best album you’ve heard this year, I finally got the lead out & listened to song samples at Amazon.com. It didn’t take long to realize this is some real good stuff.
I had a $5 promotional credit for music downloads at Amazon burning a hole in my virtual pocket, so I bought the album & am listening to it now. So far, all I can say is “Wow!”. Thanks again…

I started hearing her name mentioned a few years ago, but it wasn’t until I heard a few songs on the radio that she really got my attention. They are excellent in concert. I plan on seeing them again on Dec 12 in Northampton, MA. Take care.

The closest is a date in November in Asheville, NC. I might drive up for that, but I’ll wait for now & see if an Atlanta date pops up.
I just finished listening to the whole album. Great stuff from start to finish. I love her voice. To me, she sounds a bit like Pieta Brown who is one of my top ten favorites easily. Thanks again! I love discovering new tunes!

Now that I have her last two albums and have given both of them thorough listens, I have to say I like Sea Of Tears better. While I like Letters From Sinners & Strangers too, Sea Of Tears is just so fantastic, it is hard to beat!
