ParticipantThere is a very positive review for DWTSMTB in the new issue of Tone Audio. There is no direct link to the review online, but you can download a PDF of the issue for free at their website (it’s the lead review, beating out even the new Robert Plant record):

Tone Audio is an online publication geared toward audiophiles, and they have great taste (obviously). One of my favorite magazines and essential if you are putting together a $50K turntable system 😯

ParticipantDavidK,
Thank you for this excellent mid-afternoon diversion. Favorite line:
“. . .
he demonstrates no singer makes the word ‘baby’ count for more.”Amen. And he’s not even talking about ‘Essence’ or ‘Right in Time’!

InactiveBaby, sweet baby… That’s all you need! Maybe I should put Champaign into the fridge – oh goodness, still weeks of waiting…

ParticipantI don’t think any review will rival Bob Gendron’s ‘Tone Audio’ review, however, add another glowing one from ‘No Depression.”

ParticipantSlant Magazine is a little early out of the gate with this one:

ParticipantMaybe I’m becoming a fuddy duddy or too sensitive in my (semi) old age, but, although these reviews are glowing, there are parts of them that stick in my craw… Maybe I just can’t abide anything that resembles a lack of a full appreciation of Lucinda, but so many of the reviews seem to “giveth” but then “taketh away” in equal measure, engaging in snark over professionalism. I mean, the last line of the Slant review is: “Maybe Lucinda Williams is a poet after all.” What is THAT about??? Lots of other examples. Discuss? Viv

Participant“What most deeply touches me in your songs is the fact that what they say is not really about you, but about the listener; this is what makes them so important to those who hear them.”-Miller Williams

Participanti’d pay no attention to slant. their writing staff is a bunch of pretentious snobs. it creeps me out. but a 4-out-of-5 from them is GLOWING. trust me on that.
i’m very glad people are liking this a lot. years ago i didn’t feel the love BLESSED deserved by the critics – and that upset me. this one will make things right again. it currently holds a 81 rating on metacritic.

ParticipantThis isn’t really a review of DWTSMTB, but I thought Justin Townes Earl paid the highest of compliments to Lucinda on an article for his new record.
Here’s an excerpt.“I wrote it to be a double record, but then I found out that Lucinda was putting out a double record and I don’t ever in my life want to go toe-to-toe with Lucinda Williams,” he said. “I went back and thought about how many double records have been made in the past 30 years that I would want to go back and listen to all the way through. If anybody can get away with it these days, it’s possibly the best songwriter in the world, Lucinda Williams. But I think it’d be unfair to count on attention spans being that long these days.”
Here’s the link to his new record.
