Uber-producer Don Was has been named chief creative officer of Blue Note Records.
The longtime label owned by EMI Music said Tuesday that the Detroit-raised Was has been hired to “identify and develop creative talent” as well as produce records by Blue Note artists.
Was said in a statement that “it’s a profound honor to be a part of this legendary company.”
The Grammy-winning Was has produced records for the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Lucinda Williams and the B-52s. He’s currently working with John Mayer.
Blue Note has its roots in jazz but current artists include Norah Jones and actor-musician Jeff Bridges.
