The Desert Rose Band played a benefit show in Thousand Oaks tonight and it was a tremendous show. Small place, small crowd. These guys only play together once a year at most. Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Bill Bryson, and John Jorgenson. Great musicians all. A fine all acoustic evening of folk, country, and bluegrass music. Each of these guys is a genius at what they do. They did killer versions of Sin City, Turn Turn Turn and Eight Miles High, one right after the other. I was I had spent the extra money for the meet and greet but I wasn’t thinking straight, an ongoing experience I am having of late. 😆
I read your posts on other artists too, Tony. Good stuff: I’ve never seen these guys in a live show, collectively or individually. Ah, the era of Stephen Stills & Manassas. . .
Tony, you might try Sera Cahoone at the Satellite, this Saturday night. Sera should be the last act, maybe about 11 PM, just after the late football telecasts. You can check the Satellite Facebook page during the afternoon on Saturday, to verify the set times.
Edited update on Friday afternoon: a Satellite Facebook note has confirmed Sera’s set for !! PM, Saturday night. Also, Sera is the LA Weekly top selection for Saturday night.
I will reinforce that tip, Paul: Sera opened for Lu once in Portland, and also was on the No Depression Fest bill in front of her in Seattle. Yet I didn’t realize tony was such a football fan and inclined to favor late night, post-pigskin acts.
