Ditto times 3! Let me know when you do, tonyg, I want to be standing beside you at that show .

I was told the band practiced the song together but not with Lu. If I have this correct (I just remembered) Lu was going to do solo acoustic but then opted to bring the band out. Beautiful rendition. Flawless. I was totally blown away by the gesture. A Grammy winning musician that doesn’t personally know a fan, reaches out to them with a song. Absolutely amazing and an event I will NEVER forget. Thank you TO for orchestrating, thank you Buick 6 for providing the beautiful instrumentation, and above all, thank you LU for reaching out to this fan with a song where it all began for me. I’m still in awe!
That is beyond cool…sounds like an experience to remember for a lifetime. It’s always nice to see a performance of a rarity, but to know that it was done especially for you? Amazing! How incredibly awesome that Lucinda does things like this. 🙂
After seeing I Just Wanted To See You So Bad and Happy Woman Blues in Madison last year, there aren’t too many songs that I haven’t seen but am just about dying to. That said, maybe I’ll change my handle to All I Want and see if I can figure out something I can do to make myself worthy. 😉

June 16, 2009 at 12:10 am #39843metalfirecrackerParticipantThe dope smoker/drinker guy was two different guys. I know because I was between them. The guy drinking was from Lexington and he is also the one who grabbed the setlist. I don’t know who the toker was, but it was very rude to blow smoke at Lu.

Sounds like an awesome show at the Madison in Covington Kentucky last Wednesday. Chez Noras a great place for drinks some appetizers and walking distance from the Madison. I read yours and others description of the show and the setlist. Sounds like I missed an awesome show. Big Red Sun is number 2 on my favorite LW songs and I missed it. Damn!!! I listened to Lafayette a couple times tonight. Did she play it like her Happy Woman Blues version or more like JCMs version.
Short explanation for me missing this incredible event. The wife scheduled a vacation in the Smokey’s last week. I attempted to change it which almost resulted in a divorce. It was difficult, but I chose my marriage over the Lucinda Williams Concert. It was a hard decision.

He loved the venue, and enjoyed the show – better than Auckland he said, the venue suited much better and better atmosphere. He also took a couple of cellphone videos to share with his poor family stuck back home, which was nice to see although the quality was pretty bad. He was quite close to the front, and when watching one of the videos, we saw a big cloud of smoke blow up onto the stage – aha! the mystery dope smoker 😆
Anyhow, his flying visit is over (Cincinnati is very hard to get to from our little corner of the world). Hubby was very impressed by the locals – couldn’t believe how incredibly friendly everyone is, and just generally nice people.
So unless we come into a helluva lot of money, theres not much chance of us turning up to a Lucinda show anytime soon, but I’ve enjoyed all the set lists and show reports. Maybe I’ll get another chance to comment soon 🙂
June 20, 2009 at 1:15 am #39822LeftyParticipantCome on by anytime, nickle 🙂
June 20, 2009 at 6:24 am #39823LafayetteParticipantStevarino, Lu played the perfect version, her version for that particular night, and I will have to call that as best song of the tour 🙂 followed by “Mama, You Sweet.”
There will be more Lu shows. You made the best choice.
