Nothing better in life than, eating BBQ, seeing some really good performances by Whitey Morgan, Dr. John, Irma Thomas and a beautiful evening with Lucinda Williams and Buick 6 putting on a fantastic show, a really fantastic show , running into Mr S, and thinking Thank Goodness, I will not be messing up this set list. Thank you, Mr. S, the 2 D”s from NJ appreciate your efforts.
From Tom:
About 3 or 4 years ago-the last time Lucinda was in Columbia, she also played a festival that was in it’s first year. After the show the promoter came back on the bus and said “Lucinda, thank you so much” and she rather perplexed, said “for what?”, and he replied “for helping get this festival started”, and she said “what do you mean?”. “Well about 3-4 years ago you were the guinea pig for the start of this festival -you were the headliner for that first yea-and look at it now—I was so glad to have you back as we’ve grown it -you are welcome here anytimer”. The owner Richard, who use to own the revered Blue Note, which he had started in college, has really built something great -we couldn’t believe how big the crowd was. He also happens to be one of the good guys who has supported artists like Lucinda for many years. It’s great to see people like that still fighting the good fight and doing good things in this business.
And speaking of hanging in there and fighting the good fight our friend G. Love sat in with Lu on Lead Belly’s song New York City, which Lu sang with him on his new record. Good times.
