    Set list:

    1) Buttercup

    2) Can’t Let Go – Blake was very retro sounding on the guitar. My first show with him on guitar, and I love the kid already. 🙂

    3) People Talkin’ – ‘We went to a little bar last night and people were jamming and playing cool mountain music’

    4) Crescent City – ‘This is a song of mine on the Rough Trade album, beautifully recorded by Emmy Lou Harris’

    5) Lake Charles – ‘doing a travelogue of all the cities I’ve ever lived in – Baton Rouge, I was born in Lake Charles, Jackson, New Orleans’

    6) Jackson – ‘The acoustics are so great in here, I barely need anything turned up.’

    7) Copenhagen – ‘This is a song that is a fairly literal description of an actual event. When we were over touring in Copenhagen, we got the news that my manager, Frank Callari, had suddenly passed away. This is the song I wrote after I head the news.’

    8. Blessed – ‘Title song of the new album’ – Lu got tangled up on the lyrics toward the end of the song, but kept playing, circled back around and got all the blessings straight, without starting over, no re-do. 

Lu then introduced the band, starting with Blake Mills from Venice, California. ‘We are very blessed to be working with him.’ Meanwhile, Butch was holding up the “Welcome Blake” sign that Lafayette and Stoger first held up to welcome Blake to the band at the Indianapolis show. It was pretty funny. 🙂

‘Thanks so much for coming out, especially on a weeknight, especially during these hard times for digging in your pockets and supporting live music.’

    9) Born To Be Loved

    10) Steal Your Love – ‘We’re gonna pick it up a little bit now. This is a song off the Essence album. What I’m really curious about is which fans do I share with Snoop Dogg? He’s playing right across the street.’

This Blake version of Steal Your Love is different than anything you’ve ever heard before. Hard to describe – kinda retro guitar, a little jazzy, a little reggae at the end.

    11) Still I Long For Your Kiss – ‘Uh-oh, people are walking out. Are they going to see Snoop Dogg? I think it’s cool, that says a lot about a town, on a Monday night having so many choices. Decisions, decisions…’

The late Duane Jarvis co-wrote this song, off the Car Wheels album.

    12) Convince Me

    13) Come On

    14) Essence

    15) Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings

    16) Unsuffer Me

    17) Righteously – ‘I went into a karaoke bar and there weren’t too many people in there, and this song was in the book. I didn’t want them to say who I was, but the girl announced me. That was really something – I’ve won all these awards, but now I’m in the book of karaoke songs!’ 😀

    18) Changed The Locks – ‘Thank you for coming out, I really appreciate it. This is a song of mine off the Rough Trade album; I was real honored to have Tom Petty cut a version of it.’

    19) Honey Bee

    Encore:

    20) Passionate Kisses – Lu did this solo acoustic – ‘I’m gonna do this song written by a dear friend of mine – wait – I mean I wrote it! – I gotta re-focus. It’s kind of hot up here. Mary Chapin Carpenter recorded this, I hope I can say this without breaking down. We’d toured in Australia with Roseanne Cash, and Mary Chapin Carpenter wanted to record the single but the label didn’t think it was country enough. She said the hell with them and released it as a single and won the award for Country Song of the Year. That changed everything for me. It surprised the hell out of everyone in Nashville, and surprised the hell out of me and everybody else.

    21) Joy – ‘Love, peace, and revolution. Don’t give up the fight!’

Great report, Sandy! Lu was in a chatty mood last night, so it seemed. Very cool.

I haven’t heard “Passionate Kisses” in a long time. “Still I Long For Your Kiss”–ooh la la.

HILARIOUS! I so wish I could have seen that! Thanks for reporting the fun stuff, too.

Butch (Martin-HA!) has a great sense of humor. Perhaps he should put on his drum head “My name is Butch (NORTON)” for those that don’t take the time to get the names right.

Thanks for this report! I’m seeing her tonight in Charlotte (2.5 hr drive there, and 2.5 hr drive back after the concert, but worth it!) and this report made me even more excited for tonight’s show. I hope she plays Crescent City and much of this set list. If Pineola were on it, it would be perfect. I’m just giddy I’m seeing her tonight, and I’m bringing a Lucinda concert newbie with me… spreading the Lu love! 🙂
