I was on Cayamo and am happy to fill in a few details here for the regular posters. I did not see Tuesday’s show but my roommate did and said Lu was fantastic. I was there for Wednesday and Thursday’s shows. At Wednesday’s show (which is the one where the reviewer quoted above said she was a diva), it seemed Lucinda was having problems hearing something, either the guitars or herself, one of the crew kept coming out trying to correct the problem, but was not able to resolve and at one point she threw something small, either a capo or the offending piece of equipment, but once they got the issue resolved, she settled right down and gave a great show. She was smart or had gotten good advice beforehand and wore deck shoes at all her shows, the stage does roll quite a bit, I’ve seen some performers almost topple over in high heeled boots. Highlight of Wednesday show was Jailhouse Tears with Jim Lauderdale, it was great and they seemed to really be having fun together.

though Miller’s appearance was a bit strange at first because she called him out one song early.

Regarding this, Rhett Miller spoke about it at a later guitar pull, said she had suggested he come out for Joy and when he said, but there is no harmony part there, she said come out for Get Right with God — then called him and Jim both out for Joy, but that Lauderdale had the good sense to not go out. Rhett laughed and said he didn’t know what to do once he was out there so he just grabbed a tambourine and shook his butt. Lu made a reference after that song thanking him for dancing.
She put on three good shows, but as far as I know did not make any appearances with anyone else, although her drummer and Tom Pettybone sat in with some others later in the week. She really brought it with her final numbers and encore the nights I saw — was really a great Lucinda show.

Thanks for this! And “Tom Pettybone” ??? Has there ever been such a great splicing together of two figures important to the playing of, the appreciation of, and the covering of Lucinda’s songs? I call that figure a multi-instrumental Heartbreaker, even if he’s a dual mythical synthetic figure!

My husband and I were lucky enough to be on the Cayamo Cruise and were absolutely thrilled that Lucinda was added a couple of months before the event… Wow! Saw her twice on the ship and couldn’t have been more thrilled… her voice and lyrics are killer….can never get enough of Lucinda! By the crowd response, she blew everybody away and she seemed to be having a wonderful time… sure hope she returns next year! (we’re already saving up)…… plus, we were entertained by John Prine, Iris Dement, Lyle and Hiatt, Loudon Wainwright, Buddy Miller, Richard Thompson…. a dream lineup… now back to the real world, sadly….

Thanks for catching that weird name garbling. He could be a character in the Simpsons. That’s what happens when you hurriedly post from work!! HA.
