There have been no dispatches from the deep blue sea regarding the cruise that got underway Sunday. If anyone wants to post news, scuttlebutt, or the like let’s do so here. There is a Facebook page for the cruise but it is also void of any tidbits. I don’t know when Lu is playing but the line up on this ship is fantastic; James McMurtry, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller, and more and more.

One thing I do know: Blake couldn’t make it, but I don’t know why. Doug is on board, the ship and the band.

Maybe Tom will throw us a few tidbits. Not sure what the internet situation is out there.

According to the attached schedule, Lucinda has sets planned for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. However, one might speculate that the performers make informal guest appearances throughout the week of shows.

Outstanding find, Paul. I will speculate away.

I see Richard Thompson is there. Taras has been touring with him. I wonder if he is there?

Gosh, tonyg you seem to have found some interesting info about no Blake and yes Doug.. Maybe you should be called InsideJob2 😆
Maybe Doug and Liz are on their honeymoon cruise.
Anyway, here is some “scuttlebutt” on Monday’s activities from No Depression.

And here is a pic from the Norwegian Pearl’s bridge on their webcam taken after it left Cayo Levantado ( a small island off the Dominican Republic) this afternoon on the way to Wednesday’s stop at St. Maarten.

Rumor has it that Butch did a belly flop off the bow earlier today.[attachment=0:4a7fcrig]Norwegian Pearl webcam.jpg[/attachment:4a7fcrig]

I’m landlocked for the whole of February, lwj, no scoop to offer. I do rather like the idea of a honeymoon cabin for Doug and Liz, but is any schooner big enough for erstwhile band members like Mr. Produniak and Mr. Pettibone alongside the present folk? What, Jim Christie spotted surfing off the starboard side? Could be happening. . .

    Here’s No Depression’s Wednesday report.
The blogger attended his first ever Lu live concert and reported the following:

“At 10 we were back in the main theatre with another packed house watching Lucinda Williams. She sounded great, though I’d have to say that after watching Buddy Miller’s interactions with the other musicians and the crowd, she seemed less the gracious star and bit more of the diva. Still, it was our first time to see her live and it was great to hear her do Real Live Bleeding Fingers, Drunken Angel, Crescent City, Change The Locks, Joy and Get Right With God performed live. Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale and Rhett Miller made appearances, too, though Miller’s appearance was a bit strange at first because she called him out one song early. He’s a good sport, so he grabbed a tambourine and danced around a bit as she did Joy while waiting for Get Right, the song he was supposed to sing backup on.”

A little bit of a diva? I hope Lu doesn’t run into him on board.

A mini review from Lu’s Thursday night show.

    Lucinda Williams on Cayamo 2012
Lucinda Williams seemed to take a while to get accustomed to playing on a cruise ship, with her shows getting stronger throughout the week on Cayamo. She acknowledged her growing comfort level at the outset of her third and final show, saying it takes a while to get your bearings on board and that she was excited to play the 6 p.m. show because “people are fresher.”
She then launched into an excellent set, opening with “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.” Highlights included “Changed the Locks, “Still I Long For Your Kiss” and “Get Right With God,” but Lucinda seemed most tickled by her hard-rocking “Honey Bee.” “That’ll start your night out right,” she said.
The encore was the Buffalo Springfield classic, “For What It’s Worth,” written by Stephen Stills. This was a fun and vibrant take, and although the song was inspired by police clashing with teens on the Sunset Strip, it still has resonance.
“This song was written in the ’60s, but it’s still very relevant today,” Lucinda said.

I was on Cayamo and am happy to fill in a few details here for the regular posters. I did not see Tuesday’s show but my roommate did and said Lu was fantastic. I was there for Wednesday and Thursday’s shows. At Wednesday’s show (which is the one where the reviewer quoted above said she was a diva), it seemed Lucinda was having problems hearing something, either the guitars or herself, one of the crew kept coming out trying to correct the problem, but was not able to resolve and at one point she threw something small, either a capo or the offending piece of equipment, but once they got the issue resolved, she settled right down and gave a great show. She was smart or had gotten good advice beforehand and wore deck shoes at all her shows, the stage does roll quite a bit, I’ve seen some performers almost topple over in high heeled boots. Highlight of Wednesday show was Jailhouse Tears with Jim Lauderdale, it was great and they seemed to really be having fun together.

though Miller’s appearance was a bit strange at first because she called him out one song early.

Regarding this, Rhett Miller spoke about it at a later guitar pull, said she had suggested he come out for Joy and when he said, but there is no harmony part there, she said come out for Get Right with God — then called him and Jim both out for Joy, but that Lauderdale had the good sense to not go out. Rhett laughed and said he didn’t know what to do once he was out there so he just grabbed a tambourine and shook his butt. Lu made a reference after that song thanking him for dancing.
She put on three good shows, but as far as I know did not make any appearances with anyone else, although her drummer and Doug Pettibone one sat in with some others later in the week. She really brought it with her final numbers and encore the nights I saw — was really a great Lucinda show.

Thx for the great report Atlgirl.

Lu had a problem with the sound? Shocking. 🙄

5th Cayamo for me and it was the best one. Caught the 8:00 pm show by Lucinda and it was great. Had people on their feet toward the end of her show which is not easy on a ship in the rolling seas. Well, this year really wasn’t too bad in terms of ocean waves. Damn, that Doug P. sure can play the guitar!

Here are my pictures and if you do the slideshow and hit the little flag icon near the back button it will
    show full screen:

On Saturday night got in an elevator that Lucinda was on. She asked everyone how you get off the ship because she was having so much fun she didn’t want to leave. I told her that is why you come back next year. Of course, 800 young students were on the ship the next day for a cruise so the vibe would have changed big time anyway. Must say that having 1/3 or so of the people on the cruise do Tai Chi in the morning with Jim Lauderdale sure did set a nice mood for the week.
