Ok I’m back and I’m hungry for music. Let’s get this party started. The Canyon Club is a large bar/joint/venue on the 101 in the suburbs north of Los Angeles, on the way to Ventura County, my home. I drive by this place twice a day. I saw Kansas 😮 there once, as one of my friends went to college with their tour manager so I agreed to go with him. What a night that was. Imagine the people you went to high school with who liked Kansas, then imagine those same people 40 years later. I saw Dave Mason there, accompanied by the famous Tim of our own little FF. I recently saw Albert Lee and a cast of dozens there. I’m not sure if this is a dinner show or not but the food was worse than dog food at the Albert Lee show so I am going to eat before I go there. Prepare to rock on!

off at 11:26February 28, 2014 at 10:24 am #52676paul_from_losangelesParticipantThanks, tonyg, for the setlist. I was preparing my version of the setlist, but I was delayed watching the Haden Triplets on Conan TV. (The Haden Triplets perform at the Bootleg in Los Angeles in about 19 hours this Friday night).
For Lucinda’s show, Gia Ciambotti joined on-stage for vocals, starting at Pineola, and remaining for most of the songs.
“Stand Right” at #7 in the setlist is a new song.

And, happy birthday to p_f_la

Nice to see Mr. Pettibone back on stage.

Great performance and I really liked the way she came back to Those Three Days later in the show after a couple of awkward starts. It ended up being one of the highlights for me. Really liked the opening band (The Kenneth Brian Band) a lot too.
February 28, 2014 at 4:40 pm #52680tonygKeymasterWe had mad, mad fun last night. I was in a party of 4 and we strolled in around 9:15 after a great dinner at a fab restaurant in Westlake Village. It felt like a home game for me since the CC is less than 20 minutes from my humble home. Bill, if you want to sit at a table you have to order and try to digest dinner. I was happy to stand. Lu was her usual great self. Sorry I missed Seeing Black from the other night. Stuart Mathis was amazing on the geetar. He took great care to perform the songs as intended and did all sorts of groovy little fills and doodads here and there. He killed. I don’t know what the problem was with Those 3 Days but it started off wrong and headed downhill promptly. I was glad to see she gave it another shot later. I did forget to mention Gia Ciambotti sang throughout the show.
When Doug joined for the last 3 songs a very, very good show became a great show. Doug wailed like crazy and he and Stuart are very good together. If they played together every night it would be beyond mega awesome.
The Canyon Club was filled with familiar faces. It was a great and rare treat to see our quiet leader, Ralph the Webmasta in the house, along with his wife Jennifer. My super talented friend and musician Matt Szlachetka was there with his friend Craig. Paul From Los Angeles was ever present. Grumpmama was in fine form. FF friend Cindy made the scene.
It was great to see Tom, Lu, David, Butch, and Stuart, and Gia. It was great to see other people, whoever they are. It was not great to get to bed at 2 am and come to work for 7 am. I thought I wasn’t going to do that anymore. I look forward to the final 3 shows.
February 28, 2014 at 5:20 pm #52681BillGParticipantAgree with everything you said about the show. That was a home game for me too, it was nice to only have a 20 minute drive home afterwards. We were planning to eat at Ladyface Alehouse but at the last minute decided to try the dinner at Canyon Club. Won’t make that mistake again but one benefit was that we were at a table with some good people and we made friends for the night.
February 28, 2014 at 5:41 pm #52682tonygKeymasterMy friend Matt was at Ladyface before the show!
February 28, 2014 at 5:53 pm #52683LafayetteParticipantGreat report, fellas.
“Stand Right” – new song?
February 28, 2014 at 6:20 pm #52684paul_from_losangelesParticipantCorrect, Lafayette. “Stand Right” is a new song, and was debuted last night.
Also, for this tour, “Buttercup”, “Right in Time”, and “Those 3 Days” had their first appearances.February 28, 2014 at 8:25 pm #52685LWjettaParticipantGreat reporting all, sure did look like a fun night tonyg and since you met Ralph the Webmasta perhaps you could contact him as co-moderator to have him look into the bugs on the forum that need fixing as reported elsewhere.
Many thanks. Here’s most of the encore from You Tube.

February 28, 2014 at 8:53 pm #52686stogerParticipantThanks for all this. Could someone speak to “Stand Right,” either quoting a brief lyric or describing the sort of song it seemed musically?
“Buttercup”?!?!!? Oh my.
Gia C is of course the daughter of Dr. John C, the bassist/chiropractor from the self-titled era.

very upbeat positive song, referring to a couple doing right by each other. “I’m gonna stand right by you, you’re gonna stand right by me…” I had heard Lucinda “hum a few bars” of this song on Tuesday night after the Echoplex show – she was talking about how excited she was about all of the new material. it’s a really catchy tune and for some reason reminds me (not reggae at all) of that mick jagger/peter tosh duet of Don’t Look Back (originally a Temptations song, though). Same vibe, for me at least.

As lengthy as “Wrap. . .” from the West album?
