From Tom:
Well this turned into a more interesting day than what we thought it would be. A bumpy plane ride from Sydney to windy Brisbane had Lu a little bit on edge but once we landed everything was ok. It was beautiful day when drove out to the winery but apparently we flew in on the front of a storm that was on its way thru. In anticipation of getting all the sets in they had asked if everyone could start early, which Kasey Chambers did. Just about the time that she finished the storm really made it’s presence known over head. By the time Lu was ready to go on it was now pouring rain with big thunder and then of course an impressive lightning show. Because the lightning started to get very close they shut down the stage and waited for it to blow thru. A very nervous Lu took the stage about 20 minutes after her scheduled start time -it had stopped raining but there were some occasional lightning flashes. We had determined on radar that none of them were close but Lu was still very jumpy. During Lake Charles a lighting flash hit in the sky where Lu could see it a she stopped the song about 3/4 thur and turned to see if she should keep playing. The lightning was not close so she hesitantly continued to an incredible crowd that had stayed thru the whole weather show. At the point in the show when Lu picked up the electric guitar, she laughed and said “now I’m really pressing my luck”. From about that point on the nervous energy on the stage translated into everyone just digging in and really rocking hard. As Lu put it later “if it was my time to go I was gonna go out rockin”.
