OK, knowing I’d probably need to be the one to do this hours later, I took some notes–inspired perhaps by the pad and pen of West Words. And thanks to toverby for posting the Memphis setlist, albeit in an even LESS timely manner than this 😀 😀

22 Joy [ ” ]Yes, one song and one song only from the new record. Anybody seen much of that lately from artists on tour, presumably promoting their latest? And how about that segue from Memphis Minnie to Skip James? When Charlie Sexton joined Adcock on stage for part of the opener, I braced myself for mucho Essence tracks and his main-set walk-out, but two from that record and his gunslinging encore work did very nicely. He brought along Shannon McNally to the show, who hovered beautifully afterwards but didn’t get on stage–her first Lu show, she told me! This was a Mama as Happy show like almost no other. Late in the set Lu semi-apologized for not talking much between songs (“We’ve got this time thing,” by which she seemed to mean not house curfew but the hellatiously broad state of Texas), but when have I seen her happier? In her mind, she might have wanted to counter the daylight shorter set of the mass Fest the day before (though there was plenty to like there too); this one was special. thanks to West Words for making it more possible for me. And speaking of “time thing
,” I’m still three hours away from the Austin City Limits, so. . . .May 7, 2011 at 8:44 pm #47050parkercaParticipantThat’s awesome that Charlie Sexton was there! I need to make it to one of her New Orleans shows one of these days.

I wonder if the native Australian server who waited on us this past Monday at HOB ducked in for a song or two after I told him Lu was such a fabulous artist (he was unaware of Lu but I was sure gushing about her). The following day found us at at the Hard Rock for lunch, I looked over and saw the same server working the tables at that establishment. I wonder if they are one in the same as far as employees? I’m meandering.
Lu has had an incredible guest list of artists joining her on this tour. Wowza on Charlie Sexton, not to mention Erika in Texas. I hope video surfaces of some of these incredible stage moments!
P.S. I was studyinging the abstract painting on the women’s “lu” walls at HOB and trying to figure out how to incorporate it somewhere in my house. 😯 8) 😆
