1 Lake Charles [solo]
2 Drunken Angel [full band + Earle–I wondered why Doug didn’t strap on the harmonica upon entry, but Steve walks on during the song, taking honors]
3 Concrete & Barbed Wire [before which Lu notes that Steve produced the Car Wheels record, along with Ray Kennedy “and some others”]
4 Jackson
5 Something Wicked This Way Comes {introed as hellfire/brimstone Southern gothic: Lu mentions the ABC series Nashville and this song’s potential appearance there, but I’m wondering if she means “Bitter Memory” instead]
6 Out of Touch
7 Essence
8 Ain’t My Cross to Bear
9 Righteously [with the Burbank bar karaoke story]
10 Changed the Locks
11 Honeybee

12Joy [Lu mentions a couple more coming, though “we don’t want to piss off the union”–she also calls NYC “a sister city to New Orleans now” in light of Sandy
13 Get Right with God [dedicated to the Jersey shore: “I even like Chris Christie now, though he’s a Republican”]Lu played about an hour and ten minutes, pleasing the union by stopping about a quarter of eleven. The opening Brooklyn band (?) played three songs,Shelby Lynne four, and Steve three, then intermission. Shawn Colvin then did four, followed by Lu. HIghlights were Shelby’s “Jesus on a Greyhound” and a new Steve song, “Low HIghway” I think.
Mike? Grumpy? Lafayette? West Words?
December 6, 2012 at 3:58 pm #50877tonygKeymasterGreat report Mr. Stoger. Were there any late night festivities?
December 10, 2012 at 6:52 am #50878LafayetteParticipantFinally, reporting in…
My trip was way too short, however, I thoroughly enjoyed my 26 hours in the Big Apple. In all, five forum members represented at The Beacon Theater. It was great to meet up with the Horsemen and also meet the West Coast FF contingent – grumpymama and SamishSeaMike.
Dinner and drinks pre show at The Amsterdam Cafe, near The Beacon.
The show was amazing. Each and every performer. The sound was incredible. Lu noticed as well and at one point told the audience her signature line – “If mama’s happy everybody’s happy.” Lu looked beautiful and so very happy. She was glowing. As noted, by Stoger, Steve sat in on a few songs. I was hoping we would see Shawn and Shelby during the encore but they were no where in sight. Shelby did mention something about a frog in her throat during her set.
I was live tweeting Lu’s set on my facebook page. Here are my notes. Auto correct twisted a few and I didn’t bother to correct.
Cindy Briggs Lake Charles (solo)
Cindy Briggs Band joins Lu for Drunken Angel.
Steve Earle joins Lu on harp.
Steve gives Lu a hug. Concert and Barbed Wire.
Steve gives Lu a big ol smooch and exits stage. Now playing Jackson.
New song Lu saying it may be performed in Nashville. Something Wicked at his away Comes..
Band Intros. Out of Touch!
Steve Earle watching side stage .
Essence. Lu just commented she loves Doug Pettibones outro on Out of Touch.
Lu saying Allman Bris big influence of hers. Ain’t Your Cross To Bear. She always nails this song.
Righteously. Lu commenting she knew she made it when she went into a little bar in Burbank and Righteously was a karaoke choice…AND she got up sang it. lol.
Lu commenting on how good the sound is. “When mamas happy everybody’s happy.” Changed The Locks.
Lu thanking everyone for supporting WFUV and all the artists on the bill. Honey Bee.
Lu exiting stage. I look for all the artists on this bill to join Lu for the encore.
Time crunch. Lu back. Joy. She’s sending this song to the Sandy victims.
Steve aware on guitar on Joy.
Get Right With God. Steve Earle still on guitar.
That’s a wrap.
After the show, we lost Mike (as he mentioned), however, we managed to get back to the VIP area via The Professor and his charm with security – the coolest detail I’ve encountered in quite some time. We had a few drinks, saw Lu ever so briefly in a receiving line as we exited, and then made our way back to The Amsterdam Cafe for late night after show sustenance.A big thanks to the FF – attending shows are so much more enjoyable with friends.

I thought if any of my facebook friends caught my initial post and interested in updates, it would have been you and TNT.

Thanks, that was a good little read. I especially love how they say Lucinda never needs to use hip irony or sarcasm in her music, because her sincerity is so spot on.
February 9, 2013 at 3:31 pm #50883LafayetteParticipantI like to think Lu would be real happy being compared to a real life Rayna James as well. 🙂
