This is a pretty small thing to post about (particularly after the fantastic blog entries from “Inside Job”), but I think that the Lucinda Williams Store web design has beaten me. I don’t consider myself particularly a Luddite, but for the life of me I can’t seem to order a copy of the Buick 6 CD on the bloody site. It’s not the shipping to Australia thing. I’m in Texas.
I’ve tried to find some other site selling this album, but with no luck. Does anyone know of some other outlet offering it?
Kent
(By the way, since the google search turned up the fact that there are apparently a couple of other bands performing as “Buick 6”, I’d suggest “Buick 66” as a substitute if the name’s a problem.)
April 14, 2009 at 9:50 pm #39414GreysoulParticipantSorry to hear about your troubles, Kent. I tried to lay hands to a review copy of the Buick 6 CD back when I first heard about it – nobody amongst Lucinda’s management seemed to be able to point me in the right direction, so I waited until it was available and bought one to write up for Jambands.com. (Review was posted on the band’s site the last I knew.) No problem – these things happen. Tried to order another copy in early March for a family birthday with express shipping – nothing happened. After a couple weeks, customer service said they would look into it. Finally, after nearly a month (3/10 – 4/6), I was told by GTM customer service they didn’t know why my order hadn’t processed, but they would credit my card and I could go ahead and re-order … which I did (on 4/7). Hasn’t shown up yet, but I promise you I’ll let you know when it does.
Doesn’t change my review … I meant every word. They’re a great band.
April 14, 2009 at 10:38 pm #39415kentmcmParticipantThanks for the info. It takes the edge off to know that the universe hasn’t singled me and my browser out for a hard time just trying to buy what looks as if ought to be a great album from Buick 6.
By the way, I had read your review on the band’s website and particularly enjoyed:
Norton sounds like heโs riding the drum kit down a flight of stairs, never missing a beat, with Sutton right behind him.
(Somewhere on the web, there’s a video of Butch Norton playing some plastic bubble wrap, the metal case of some dead appliance, and some other found percussion instrument. It’s a classic.)

April 15, 2009 at 3:11 am #39417kentmcmParticipantThat’s great to hear, Tom. If my experience isn’t just some isolated fluke, finding and fixing the problem may lead to a significant improvement in revenue from the site. I suspect that most of us would prefer to buy as close to directly from the artist(s) as possible.

April 15, 2009 at 8:30 pm #39419GreysoulParticipantKent, there is hope – my reordered Buick 6 just showed up on the doorstep … all I know to tell you is, don’t give up. It’s worth the wait. If Tom’s on the case, you’re in good hands.
April 15, 2009 at 10:29 pm #39420kentmcmParticipantExcellent. Just as a footnote to the misadventure in on-line commerce: I found that I was able to log in to the Lucinda Williams Store and order the Buick 6 CD … on another machine, one running Windows Vista.
I have to wonder whether the log-in scripts weren’t executing properly with my version of IE7 running in Windows XP Pro. I sent the support people a note to let them know what my experience had been, but at this point, with the chances of actually receiving what promises to be a jewel of a CD suddenly looking vastly improved, I guess things have worked out. At least until it’s time to order something else, that is.

April 16, 2009 at 4:26 am #39421bleedingfingersParticipantI was very impressed with Buick 6 in Brisbane. I would like to find out the model number of Chet Lyster’s orange Gretsch
April 16, 2009 at 5:09 am #39422tntracyParticipantI’ll chime in for those still on the fence – I’d agree it is a very good (& interesting) CD – well worth the $10 US…
Good luck to all those still struggling to get their own copy!
Tom
P.S. I gotta show off my copy – it’s signed by all the gents in the band, except Butch who had already high-tailed it back onto the bus in Atlanta when I got the other autographs. Hopefully, I’ll rectify that in June in Louisville, KY (or Columbia, MO, or Kansas City, MO…)

April 16, 2009 at 2:59 pm #39423spencecbParticipantJust ordered my copy today. I’ve been putting it off, but finally did.
Wanted to buy the CD last time I saw Lu, in Chicago the week before Little Honey came out, but Buick 6’s CD was not yet available.
Will enjoy the CD when it comes next week with a few beers ๐
April 17, 2009 at 4:26 am #39424TOverbyParticipantThe problems with shipping anything from the LW store internationally should be fixed in the next week or so. Thanks for your patience.

Fantastic !
Thank you !
GregApril 18, 2009 at 11:21 pm #39426fallgirlParticipantWow, sorry to hear about the troubles you’ve all experienced. Mine came immediately.
LOVE THAT CD!
April 23, 2009 at 7:09 pm #39412spencecbParticipantGot my copy yesterday, but haven’t had a chance to really listen to it yet.
Hopefully tonight, but since the weather has taken a turn for the better here in Chicago (finally) it’s going to be hard to sit inside and listen to it.
Maybe I’ll toss it on my iPhone when I get home and take the dog for a stroll while listening.
I did listen to the version of “Well, Well, Well,” very different from the version on Little Honey. I’ll have to let it grow on me.
