May 29, 2014 at 6:36 pm #53072vmorrisParticipantHey, Why the astericks beside “Unsuffer Me” and “… See You so Bad”? Is this a concert review Stoger-ism of which I am unaware? An asterisk w/o a reference is alarming to this fan. I’ll expect further explanation tomorrow 🙂 Vivian
May 29, 2014 at 7:11 pm #53073DDinNJParticipantHey VMo Nothing alarming to report concerning last night Excellent show Could Mr S be advising of tour firsts? I am sure he will enlighten
May 29, 2014 at 8:13 pm #53074TomOverbyParticipantYes -he is denoting tour debuts of those two songs. And somehow I think I gave him the wrong title of one of the new songs -it is Everything But The Truth.
May 29, 2014 at 9:26 pm #53075tonygKeymasterClassic wrong title snafu. Off with his head!
May 29, 2014 at 9:29 pm #53076vmorrisParticipant‘Unsuffer Me’ in concert is a religious experience. That’s what I would use the asterisk for, but then I might overuse them for Lucinda’s shows.
May 29, 2014 at 10:21 pm #53077stogerParticipantha ha: tour debuts indeed–but with a spiritual dimension too of course. Tom, how about BOTH “Everything Has Changed” and “Everything but the Truth” tonight?
May 30, 2014 at 7:10 am #53078tntracyParticipantJust got home from the second Atlanta show after attending both – awesome, awesome shows. It had been 1-1/2 years since I had seen Lu perform live (a personal “worst” dry spell for me since I started following her 12 or so years ago), so I was desparate for a fix… 😮 😉
I am REALLY excited now about the new album after hearing 7 or 8 of the new songs the last two nights. Some real gems all, but my favorites (so far) are “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, “Burning Bridges” (both of these were played tonight – I will defer to stoger for the full set list in a separate thread, as I did not take notes and my memory sucks), and “Everything But The Truth”. “Magnolia”, a J.J. Cale cover, played last night, is also wonderful – beautiful song…
I need to go crash, but I would be remiss if I did not mention two personal “religious experiences” that I had the last two nights. Two of my absolute favorite Lu songs are “Side Of The Road” & “Blue”. Both songs really, really strike a deep, personal chord with me for reasons I will not go into here. Lu performed “Side Of The Road” last night, and “Blue” tonight. I am not ashamed to admit that my tears ran freely during both. It was incredibly special for me.
“Side Of The Road” in particular was especially magical last night. Like all shows these days, we had our fair share of “yakkers” during the performances (a major pet peeve of mine). But, last night, when Lu performed “Side Of The Road”, the house went DEAD silent – you could have heard a pin drop – for the entire song. It was almost surreal. Unfortunately, tonight, during “Blue”, I was not similarly blessed with a respectful, listening crowd near me, but the song still was amazing, as it always is when I hear it.
Now if I could just hear “Bus To Baton Rouge” in Macon, GA, Saturday night, I will have a trifecta!

Ghosts in the wind that blow through my life
Follow me wherever I goI’ll never be free from these chains inside
Hidden deep down in my soulProbably my favourite end to any song ever.

Great to have you back Tom, missed your humour and musical knowledge.
My “dry spell” is now 2-1/2 years (Buffalo, NY in November ’11), but good news may be on the horizon.
I saw a posting on Lu’s facebook that November ’14 calls for a return to Toronto.Enjoy the Macon gig.

May 30, 2014 at 6:14 pm #53083tntracyParticipantAnd, yes, dr winston oboogie, those are indeed some incredible closing lines to a masterpiece of a song. Having grown up in the Deep South, and knowing full well that sense of longing for times & family members gone by (and who doesn’t – that’s part of the appeal of so many of Lu’s songs – the universal nature of the raw emotions in them), this song wrenches at my heart and soul as do “Blue” & “Side Of The Road”. All of them are simply beautiful…
