I was rather disappointed upon hearing this cover which was recommended in print as the best cut off the former Heart vocalist’s first solo album. Being a true admirer of kd lang’s powerful voice and vaguely recalling some of the old Heart vocals, I was curious to hear what the best song off an album including covers “from Led Zep to Lucinda Williams” might sound like. As expected, I am such a true blue fan that it just sounded foreign to me. Jackson is one of my many many favs, so I didn’t expect, anyone else, even with those voices, to compare.
I was a bit tickled to read Ann Wilson being quoted as saying something like, these are the songs that brought me solace when I was trying to make it through the night. Any other opinions?

I haven’t heard either cover versions you mentioned. Sometimes I guess it’s difficult to live up to the original, however, it is a huge compliment to Lucinda. They must think highly of her songwriting. Remember when K.D. Lang sang “Cryin” with Roy Orbison? Unbelievable. Another great cover I can think of is Johnny Cash’s “Hurt”. I think it was originally done by Nine Inch Nails (but I could be wrong). I have the DVD, it’s a definite purchase if you don’t have it.
I guess I know what she means about songs/music bringing a person through the not so good times. It also can be very motivating too, don’t you think? Now I have some great Lucinda tunes to go running to.
ZZ Top was also on the VH1 show. They are now on my list of concerts to attend. They are just too cool.

wow .. this just makes me smile. Good lord … I have not thought about ZZ Top in frelling years! Are they touring, again?
I saw them at the Iowa state fair grounds in Des Moines in the 70’s!?!?!?!?! can’t believe it has been that long.
Anyway, they are a good/fun/funky rock band. But, “too cool”?

You know, with their long beards and sunglasses and their easy style, great blues/rock tunes. I have no idea if they are touring. It’s just my wish list. Just cause you got to see them in the ’70’s, you don’t have to rub it in. Besides, everyone knows the Minnesota State Fair puts Iowa to shame.
fyi – I’m just messin’ around with you. Sometimes I’m not sure if it comes across that way.

nah .. I got it. But of course, I was almost ready to throw down over that Minnesota crack … at least Wisconsin has a handle on ALL of your sports teams …

I just don’t know. Maybe that’s why I like the blues, it gives me an outlet after never winning a Super Bowl for so many years. When they do eventually win, I’ll be dancing that day. I may be old and gray dancing with my walker in the nursing home, but it will still be sweet victory!
I do have to give you one thing though. Brett Favre is my all time favorite quarterback, next to Fran Tarkenton of course.
And which ALL teams are you referring to? I only know football, although I went and seen the Wild play once. I was so amazed at the skating. I was even impressed by the referee’s skating. I just remember trying to skate on my Grandma’s lake and it is definitely not as easy as it looks.

lol! well, while I am not usually one to “pile on” … I have to say that it may just be a long long time before the purple people eaters show themselves again. But, hey, we packer fans can relate … do you remember what the pack did from ’67 – ’92? Yeah, nobody else does, either!

One comment, and one quick questions:
first, I seriously apologize to lucfan4ever for hijacking this thread!
Finally, what part of the world are you posting from? I saw your post this afternoon, and the time stamp said 1:30 am or something like that. Gees … are you military and posted to Iraq by any chance?

November 26, 2007 at 2:51 am #35005AnonymousInactiveI am really sorry. I guess I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve never been a part of a forum before and I guess I get off subject. Sorry about that.
November 26, 2007 at 3:04 am #35006scabrous1ParticipantBAH!
we apologized … more than usually expected and … good enough! Besides, I think it was mostly my fault, since I never even bothered to address the persons question at all, I just started riffing on your comments!
