October 12, 2011 at 8:11 pm #41103LWjettaParticipantHey Lafayette, I managed to stay up late for Jay Leno. Did the clock on your stove alert you to watch as well ?
I hope you got your email fixed to steer Amos out of your SPAM.
Along with you and the other three Road Warriors, have a great trip to the Ryman for the AMA’s tomorrow.I’m hoping for the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto that Pieta joins Amos on stage for “Out of the Cold”.

October 12, 2011 at 10:40 pm #41104tonygKeymasterIt was a good performance. Too bad he came all the way out here just to do the Tonight Show but didn’t do any local clubs.

October 26, 2011 at 10:40 pm #41109LWjettaParticipantHey Lafayette;
“Check it out” Amos from his self-titled “Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight.” from The Metropolis in Montreal last night.
Great song, great humorous dialogue and great false start.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mbNK3wvKwo
I’m all set for tomorrow night in Toronto.
Think he’ll have any of his shampoo for sale at the merch table or should I go to the store to buy some ? 😆lwj
October 28, 2011 at 1:20 pm #41110LWjettaParticipantAMOS LEE AND PIETA BROWN /BO RAMSEY @ QUEEN ELIZABETH THEATRE TORONTO, OCTOBER 27, 2011
A memorable double bill concert-One of the best I have ever attended.
Start time was supposed to be 8:00 with doors at 7:00 . Big surprise, I was in the bar at 7:35 and all of a sudden on the lobby I saw video screens all over with Pieta and Bo.
I said this must be from a DVD or rebroadcast. NO, the show started early. There was no announcement and many people arriving for 8:00 missed Pieta. Here’s a bit of a run down on Pieta’s short set.
This was Pieta’s 3rd visit to Toronto, first was here at the Queen Elizabeth with Ani DiFranco, second was with Mark Knopfler at Massey Hall (a venue that our gal Lu loves)Partial set list:
Other Way Around
Mercury
# 807 (my favourite)
West Monroe (written by Mark Knopfler)
Gotta love Pieta’s Iowa accent and Bo’s guitar work was magic. Just the two of them on stage, absolutely superb acoustics in the venue ( capacity is 1,200) and by the time Amos set started approx. ¾ full.
A pic of Pieta and Bo follows later.AMOS LEE
A full 8 person band-almost the size of Levon Helm’s including 2 back up singers.
There have been lots of comments about that “young kid” Blake Mills but the “kid” playing the electric guitar stage left to Amos didn’t look more than 15. He could really rock. At encore he brought out a beer so I guess he’s not 15.OK, Amos started at 8:30 and 21 songs later the set ended with a long, standing ovation at approx. 10:30
1. Jails and Bombs
2. Flower
3. Jesus
4. Careless
5. El Camino
6. Supply and Demand
7. Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight after a false start. (We went to the Dakota Tavern last night)
8. Arms of A Woman
9. Cup of Sorrow
10. Hello Again
11. Truth
12. SOLO Stay With Me
13. SOLO-Amos asked the audience for requests-Seen it all Before
14. SOLO-Amos couldn’t remember the words so he did All my Friends
15. Street Corner Preacher-the band returns
16. A unknown song with the lyrics Took me to Missoula, the chickens are clucking ? Lafayette-help
17. Violin
18. Black River
19. Band intro, Thanks to Pieta and Bo for opening, thanks to the audience for coming out. Windows are Rolled Down
20. ENCORE- Arms of a Woman
21. ENCORE-Fat Bottom Girls (Queen cover) Here is a vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNj6wNEFaJ8Half way through the set Amos talked about his participation in “Musicians on Call” whereby he visits various hospices in the Philly area. One patient with a name of Dora didn’t want anyone disturbing her in her room so Amos stood in the hallway and did an impromptu song. A few minutes later a nun came out of the room and said Dora got up and was dancing to the music. Amos said that made his day.
I sat next to a very nice couple-Chris from PA and Linda from Toronto. Chris was videoing quite a bit and he said to me give me your email and I’ll send a couple of songs to you. Very nice. Chris is a huge Amos fan (and it turns out Lucinda also) He caught their show in Pittsburgh last July.He was most helpful on some of the song titles as I tried to write using the light from my point and shoot.
To summarize, a great concert. That Amos guy has a lot of talent and is very down to earth.
Gotta thank our friendly forum cohort Lafayette for urging me to attend.I’ll try to post a couple of pics.

October 28, 2011 at 2:37 pm #41112tonygKeymasterGreat report LWj. The “kid” is Zach Djanikian, age 24. I met him in LA. Hard to believe there are people out there that young.

Thanks tonyg, Zach can really handle that guitar.
All in all a great “bargain” concert at just over 40 bucks all in.[attachment=0:1u14qsat]tn_SOLO Amos.JPG[/attachment:1u14qsat]October 30, 2011 at 4:07 am #41114LafayetteParticipantJust catching up on this thread…not sure where I’ve been all week.
Loved your set list print out to take to the show.
WOW…Amos is mixing it up. Taking requests? False starts (never witnessed that before). Have to agree, Zach is a slinger, love Andy on slide and Freddie on drums, Mutlu singing back up and making the occasional Angel appearance.
I’m very happy you had a great night, lwj. Wish I could have been there!
October 30, 2011 at 4:10 am #41115LafayetteParticipantSong #16 is “Low Down Life.” He wrote that, he said, when he opened on the Dylan/Costello tour.
I video taped it at the Cleveland show with Lu this past July.

Thanks Lafayette.
Yup, the false start was blamed on going to the Dakota Tavern in Toronto the night before. The Dakota is frequented by Kathleen Edwards and you may recall Amos did a solo promo (no audience) there earlier in the year.
I thought the request thing was neat with a very enthousiastic audience response.
Do you think I could con you into posting the set list on Setlist.FM on my behalf?
Looks like you have to sign on using Facebook which I do not subscibe to.
Thanks.lwj
