Ah, yes, lwj, I had my eye on that show when it was announced months ago. I passed, wondering if our Bearcats would be playing a Bowl Game this year. I think we won’t be making the trip to Miami with Saturday’s loss to Rutgers.

Actually, the last time I saw Amos was in July, 2011 with Lucinda in Cincinnati and Cleveland.

A Pollstar notification just hit my inbox. He currently has no shows listed on his site, however, he is coming to the Bijou in Knoxville, TN on Good Friday. The day works for me and well within my 8 hour driving cap. 😀

Lafayette, you probably received Amos email today.
Quite the honor for Amos in this tribute.

We’re thrilled to announce that Amos will be one of the many artist paying tribute to artist extraordinaire, Prince.
On March 7, The Music of Prince will take place at Carnegie Hall in New York, and will also feature performances by Elvis Costello, Bettye Lavette, Booker T. Jones and many more, backed by house band, The Roots.
Tickets are on sale now, as are some exciting VIP packages. Visit CarnegiePrince.com for more details

Yes, I did receive that notice. It’s awesome he is getting these special invites to play without being on the road.

As a side note on the Knoxville gig, I’m now holding out hope Amos will be opening act for a scheduled Bluegrass show sponsored by WDVX, as it now appears on the Bijou’s website. No mention of Amos on the event calendar or his website, but a google search will pull his name up as appearing at this show. The optimist in me purchased a ticket. I hope the gamble pays off.

Amos’ version of “Some Days Are Diamonds” is absolutely wonderful.

Just got this seconds ago in an email:

AMOS RECORDING NEW ALBUM IN NASHVILLE

Amos is currently finishing album number five with producer Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Eric Church).

Amos is the first artist to record in Jay’s new studio, which he built in an old church in east Nashville. We’ll have more details about the new record for you very soon, so stay tuned.

Yes! Extremely excited to hear this news! He also posted a photo on FB.

If all goes well and Lady Luck is on my side ( as in no flight cancellations or long delays), I will be in NYC tomorrow at an intimate Farm Aid fundraiser with Amos as the featured performer at a farm to table restaurant, Haven’s Kitchen.

I’m soooo excited. I haven’t seen him perform for a year and a half at least. I hope to have photos on FB if it seems proper. If not, I will write up a report.

Last year was the inaugural Farm Aid fundraiser held at Haven’s Kitchen. Jakob Dylan was featured performer. Billboard was in attendance and wrote up this blog:

Wonderfully composed write-up and photos on your NYC trip Lafayette. You could easily give up your “day job” to secure any open job opportunity as music editor for the largest newspaper in the Cinci area.

What a fool proof way of finding your car at the airport( as long as the Cherry level had space 😆 )
Farm Aid certainly knew how to pick a first class venue such as Haven’s Kitchen with every detail looked after.
Tell me, I hope the chocolate covered organic bananas was your preference DARK chocolate ?
    Further questions.
    1. How did you ever snag an invite to this event ?
    2. What Levon Helm song did Amos cover ?

You can now add another coveted photo with Amos to your collection.
    Again, most enjoyable reporting. Thanks.

I’m hardly ready for prime time blogging, lwj, however, I’m glad y’all enjoyed. I have fun blogging in the instagram format.

To answer your questions, lwj, the benefit was open to anyone. I/we received an email from the gal who handles the VIP ticket sales for the FA concert plus they posted the invite on their website and FB page. The ticket [tax deductible] was expensive, however, I rationalized by using FF miles and points for flight and hotel.

Amos covered, as mentioned in the Billboard piece, “Growing Trade.” I can’t believe you missed that in the article. 😆 I have to say I was not familiar with this song. Amos did a nice job introducing it, speaking about how he had played “The Barn” and felt it very appropriate for the night.

Here is Amos covering “Ophelia” last year in Rotterdam.

And, those chocolate covered bananas? Dark chocolate.
