Amos Lee is playing at the Orpheum Theater this Saturday. Any other LA peeps going? Let me know if you want to meet up.

Outstanding show tonight by Amos Lee and his band! 95 minutes long. Every song he did was fantastic, one right after the other. I picked up the 2 cds of his that I did not have and listened to them on the way home. A band called Calexico opened, sort of a cross bewteen a rock band and a mariachi band. They also joined Amos for a few songs, including the finale.

I bumped into Amos’ guitarist outside a restaurant before the show. His name is Zach. We chatted for a while about his career as a singer and guitar player. He is working on his own CD. Nice kid.

I first saw Lucinda opening for Neil Young in 2003. I first saw Amos Lee opening for Lucinda last month. It’s pretty cool when you can go see one of your favorite artists and have your mind blown by the opening act.

    Thx for the report, Tony!

Here is a short little informative interview about the making of “Mission Bell.”

Joey Burns of Calexico co produced “Mission Bell.” Amos recorded at Wavelab Studios in Tucson.

Zach is a really nice kid. I spoke with him several times in the past after shows, outside the bus, waiting on Amos.

Too bad you’re on one coast and I on another. It sounds like we could be Amos concert buds!

Good story! We can still be concert buds, just on different coasts. We can cover more shows this way.

I see he will be back east after he goes to England. I think he is appearing with Adele. Imagine how many people who will be attending those shows!

The Adele shows are all sold out. She became a fan of his while appearing after they met in Nashville, even blogged about him on her website. I think it’s safe to say he was handpicked to open for her.

I’ve been a fan of Amos’s since 2006. I almost saw him late 2005 after going to a Stoll Vaughan show in Louisville right after he came off the Mellencamp/Fogerty tour. My friend and I were chatting with Stoll very briefly before his show, and he told us he had tickets to see Amos Lee over at another club, that he had run into him at WFPK’s studio while doing an On Air, and Amos had comped him some tickets. Afterwards, Stoll offered my friend and I the tickets, he said it was probably too late (for him) to show up but we might be able to catch him. We declined, telling Stoll we came to see him. However, it was on MySpace I saw Amos somewhere, remembered his name, and started listening to his tracks, and the rest is history. HOOKED.

I like your idea of keeping each other posted on opposite coast shows! I’m hoping he goes back into studio to record his next record. He mentioned in Nashville at his Ryman show he had high hopes to come back and record his next album in Music City.

Good story. The article describes Amos as a “cult singer”. I hope that’s a good thing.

Yes, I think it is. Lucinda’s fans are often described as a cult like following. 😀

Thanks, Tony! I thought this year may be the one I start counting backwards, but I figure I may as well embrace my age, it beats the alternative.
