I don’t think I have a life event associated with Lucinda, because of my young age. Still have alot to go through (hehe). It’s wonderful to read all of your stories though. I know Lucinda touches the lives of many.

We lived in Picher, Oklahoma so it was about a 4 hr drive. With the way my grandpa would drive and the stops we made, it would take about 6. We’d usually stop and buy apples, go to Dogpatch USA http://www.abandonedbutnotforgotten.com/Dogpatch%20USA.htm in Harrison or Land of Kong http://secretfunspot.blogspot.com/2008/03/abandoned-dinosaur-world.html in Eureka.
Not much ever changed in Flippin. It was a rural town. My great-grandma was in her 80’s, widowed and dipped snuff, great woman. Some of the rooms had newspaper for wallpaper (if I remember correctly) and a huge feather bed in the living room. Sounds strange but cool for a 5 year old.
She made everything from scratch and bacon grease. So the entire house smelled like coffee eggs and bacon. I remember her dog Rover and a yard full of chickens. All the visuals of that age come back when I heard “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road”. The car ride, the telephone wires going buy, the smells etc.
All this reminiscing makes me want to go back to Dogpatch or start dippin snuff. lol

and how about the line “when i get back, this room better be picked up…”
ever heard that one before?May 26, 2011 at 9:09 pm #46892tntracyParticipant@coffee4throad wrote:

ever heard that one before? My Mom used to say that all the time… 😉
Also from CWOAGR, I like the line, “there goes the screen door slamming shut” – there is something unmistakable about the sharp slap sound of a wood-frame screen door on a front porch slamming shut when it is pulled closed by a large spring. It was almost always immediately preceded or followed by someone’s Mama calling out after her kids…

anyway, i went to the music/dvd section of a bookstore and then what song welcomed me? lake charles. of course i knew they weren’t playing car wheels, but the awesome s1 soundtrack of godawful true blood tv show. they even had one LW album there: sweet old world. already had it, but bought it again because i found to be thrilling to listen to lucinda for the 1st time in a brazilian public space.
