maybe the nicest of all memories i relate to lucinda, this one unites one of her songs to landscape, and there’s no better song for it than ‘jackson’ and no landscape more stunning than rio’s coastline. i hummed/sang quietly last year, during a bus ride in town. i didn’t need to listen to it, the song simply started – and went on and on. i must have included more cities and more ‘actions’ for the ‘i don’t think i’ll’ motif or i just repeated everything out of order. i was a newcomer fan then (and still am!), i don’t think i knew the lyrics way back, but ‘jackson’ is a pretty friendly/easy song for newcomers. anyway, it stayed with me for more than 20 minutes.
right now, i’m a west-fanatic. which means that verses and melodies from most of the songs pop up unexpectedly. the amazing thing is that was my least liked album by lucinda until recently. there’s just one song i can’t quite wrap my head around, but that’s bound to change.
‘big red sun blues’ is one of the catchiest lucinda tunes, imo. ‘passionate kisses’, too. but the RT album has the INSANELY enjoyable, a frenzy, maniac masterpiece, ‘i just wanted to see you so bad’. that one tops everything. maybe the chorus repetition has something to do with the spell it casts.
