HI all. I’m guessing that there are a few die hard Lu fans that can help me out on this one. My boyfriend was in the gym this morning and heard someone doing a cover of a Lucinda song. He doesn’t know the name of the song, or the name of the person doing the cover, but he said it sounded like a rap song. I played him Tom Petty’s cover of Change the Locks but that wasn’t it. Does anyone know which song it might be? I know that’s not a lot to go on, but if you have any guesses, let me know.

    Thanks.

Hey Kevin, about the “rap’ type song, it could be from World Without Tears, on trac 8, titled “Sweet Side”. Hope it helps…I’m a new fan as well.

“American Dream” is also a possibility

HI and thanks for the suggestions. He said that it was a guy, though, singing a Lucinda song, which sounded sort of like rap or hip hop. According to him, it was definitely a male voice.

    hmm….

It wouldn’t be “Can’t Let Go” would it?

“Joy” has a bit of that rap quality to it.

there is a rap song called ‘Fruits of my Labor’ by Jullie D – it’s not a cover of Lu’s song tho’ – check out Youtube.
Justin Tranter covers ‘Fruits……….’ (and Ruthie Foster does a nice version too) – also on YouTube.

Thanks, y’all, but I guess it’s going to remain a mystery. Maybe one day I’ll hear it in the gym, too. It wasn’t Justin or Ruthie, and it wasn’t Lu doing her own song.

My guess is it was Betty LaVette’s take on Joy on her “I’ve got my own hell to raise” album.

He swore it was a man’s voice, and I played him that song on Youtube and he said it wasn’t her. But sometimes memory is a weird thing. You may be right.
