Issues near the end of the Car Wheels title song. Everything just seemed to fall apart. A very upset Lu making comment about how important these shows were to her, and then another comment along the lines of “welcome to our f***ing rehearsal”. She she then had the band start back up with the last verse and finished the song.
So here’s the thing (my favorite line from the wacky office assistant in “Becker”): if you had walked into the show about one song later, you would have never known anything happened. The rest of the show was filled with stories about the songs, and seemed to go off without a hitch.
Highlights for me (at total opposite ends of the spectrum) were Steal Your Love and Faith and Grace (with the crowd clap-along).
A negative to me was the laid back crowd that seems to be common with member-type theaters. Right after the show, someone who had been on the latest Outlaw cruise (as Mrs. backstreets were on) had the same thoughts that I did. For the most part, the crowd just seemed dead; appreciative but dead.
Looking forward to night 2.
