Hello sportsfans,
I was down with the flu and missed Lu’s NC shows, at The Carolina Theatre on 3/18 in Durham (with Charles Lloyd) and Ramkat on 3/19 in Winston-Salem (with Dead Tongues opening). I will not belabor my grief over missing these hometown shows, as I trust that members of the Friendly Forum empathize. Stoger sent the below Ramkat set list for posting. The show was billed as a duo with Stuart, but the band united! Can’t keep a good band down. We await Stoger’s musings on Asheville, and I await The Ryman to restore order to my concert universe.
1Ghost of Hwy 20 (solo)
Songs 2-9 were duo with Stuart.
2 Passionate Kisses (it once “pissed off the people on Music Row” when it won a Grammy in the country category)
3 West Memphis
4 People Talkin’ (I missed David’s brief background vocals on this one; after Lu notes that “Mathis rhymes with bad-ass”)
5 Lake Charles (Lu ends the song before Stuart gets his instrumental break, laughingly apologizes, insists on taking it again from the last chorus–Stuart has to switch guitars back for it)
6 Side of the Road
7 Ugly Truth (Lu notes how dark a song it is)
8 World Without Tears
9 Stop Breakin’ Down
——————————————————————————-
Lu brings on the boys–no surprise since bass guitars and a thinly veiled drum kit have been on the stage ever since intermission.10 Steal Your Love
11 Changed the Locks
12Bone of Contention
13 Essence
14 Foolishness
15 Righteously (with both Coltrane and Reed riffs, then Lu starts giggling midstream, blaming it on David)
16 Honeybee

Everyone knows the first thirteen songs of the Atlanta and the Asheville shows. Two significant comments were Lu’s story in front of “I Lost It” about hitchiking up Highway 1 years ago and being given a “One Way” business card by a driver: parallels with “I Found It” there. Secondly, she did a great imitation of Marianne Faithful’s voice in comparing her eventual memoir with the rather predictable tone of MF’s own memoir.
“Seeing Black” was the AShe highlight for me, as “Ugly Truth” was the Winston highlight. Most of the post Car Wheels songs were different in Atl from Ashe, though “Foolishness” and “Get Right” and maybe one more were in common. Others can help supplement this.
By the way, who knows how to get a “New Topic” prompt when signed in? At least this time I wasn’t kicked out between signing in on the Forum general page and jumping to the “Shows” page.
