From Tom:
What a great surprise —when Lu walked out she got the best reception she’s ever gotten in Salt Lake City -she was blown away. Such great energy in the room. And of course that just made for a great night. Lu and band and our touring family were all just really ready to get back out again. It was kind of funny when Lu stepped out before the first song and said that we’ve just come from a couple days of rehearsals and we got some new songs to play both her own and some new cool covers. The crowd went a lot quieter as if they were collectively thinking “oh no not a bunch of new songs”. Then someone broke the silence and yelled “we like the old ones”, and Lu kicked into Can’t Let Go and everyone was ok again. So many highlights -there was one premier of a new song called We’ve Come Too Far To Turn Around -and after a fall start she decided to play guitar and change the key and Stuart spontaneously went to slide it went over pretty well. Another big highlight was during Foolishness when Lu sings line “i need Love in my life” she held the note out to be I need loooooooooooove in my life! That was the longest we’ve EVER heard hold a single note. After the show she said she wasn’t sure how she even did that. An electric moment on a great first night of many.
