Great show to kick off the Atlanta nights.
Nice to have the 3-song opener by Matt Blake. He commented before “Whichever Way The Wind Blows” that he always hears Lu’s duet portion in his head as he sings this song. Yeah, Matt, we do too.
Something Wicked
Drunken Angel
Car Wheels. Touching story #1. Lu told of debuting this song at the Bluebird Café with her father in attendance. Miller told her after the show that it was obvious that she was, in fact, the young girl in the back set.
West Memphis
People Talking
Cold Day in Hell
Ghosts of Hwy. 20 (Lu)
When I Look at the World (Lu)
Lake Charles (Lu & Stu)
Bus to Baton Rouge
Down With That
Dust. Touching story #2. Lu let us know she had family members in attendance tonight and related that this song is yet another one of her Dad’s works put to music. Very intimate sounding. Lu was obviously a bit emotional at the end and took just a moment to swallow that lump in her throat before continuing.
Changed the Locks
Out of Touch
Foolishness
Protection
Joy
HoneybeeHard Time Killing Floor
The Rising
Get Right With GodOn to night #2…

“Dust” is one I’ll be looking forward to hearing!

Anyone spot a co-Forum moderator in the masses?

Just my take on it. Individual results may vary – as they say.TNT and Sarah were with us both Atlanta nights, but saw no other luminaries from this fan base.

Almost every night there very special moments, sometimes very little things sometimes more obvious. Tonight there was one very big one. It was the first time she had played the song Dust live, in fact it was the first time it had been played with Stuart and the band at all. It was recorded this summer and was one of the last songs recorded for the new record. It is another adaptation of one of her father, Miller’s poems, but not quite as literal. In addition Lucinda had family in the house, including Miller’s sister Marthel and her husband. Since it had never been rehearsed it was a bit of high wire moment but Lucinda really wanted to do it. Lu and the band just tore into like they had been playing it forever and when it was over Lucinda turned around and stepped back towards Butch and had tears in her eyes. While nothing quite as special as that there was another very cool moment in the encore durin the end of Hard Time Killin’ Floor Blues when Lu just kind of vamped and extended part and the band went right with her. Some of the other songs are changing slightly every night with some improvised parts -really great to see this band go to places that few can on a night to night basis.
