“Ode to Traveling Woes” by stoger, en route from Red Rocks to Salina (as texted to me, w/ title supplied by me):

    A brokedown Greyhound.
    My right thumb.
    A benevolent turbaned Truckdriver.
Should get there in time for headliner.

I’m sure the show will be all the sweeter for the drama en route, my friend! Maybe Lu will dedicate “Side of the Road” to our roving rock n roll reporter 8) The struggle is great… the rewards are greater!

1 Blessed [in reversal of last night’s pattern, Lu walks on first and is joined by band 30 seconds in)
    2 Pineola
3 I Lost It [preceded by further Lu reflections on weather and last night’s shenanigans–Lu announces she is “comfortable” indoors in Kansas]
4 Drunken Angel [new intro content, including Lu’s time in New Orleans long back in “a shotgun apartment” and the Texas years where she “honed my craft”–going on to suggest young songwriters should do the same]
5 East Side of Town [Lu casually mentions the Americana nomination after]
6 This Old Heartache [with false start, Lu mentioning having been sick recently]
    7 Compassion
8 Lake Charles [Lu says “nobody is safe” as subject matter for a song: she then stops early in song to add the “beautiful loser” aspect of the intro]
9 It’s Gonna Rain [Lu jokingly says they “forgot to play this one last night”: she praises Stuart as the link to getting Jakob Dylan to sing background on it on the record]
    10 World Without Tears
    11 Are You Down
    12 Protection
13 Changed the Locks [Lu notes that a Big Todd fan at aftershow last night praised “the Tom Petty song you did”]
    14 Out of Touch
    15 Unsuffer Me
    16 Righteously
    17 Joy
    18 Honeybee
    _________
    19 Magnolia
20 Have Love Will Travel [Sonics cover: LU notes after “it has stood the test of time” then frets “sorry if we are making it sound like oldies but goodies night up here”] this also features false start #3, which Lu blames on herself and laughs off]
21 Up Above My Head [framed by teachable moments about Sister Rosetta Tharpe]
    22 Get Right with God

As for vmorris’ post, it’s all true. Maybe I will elaborate later. For now, let me just suggest that you haven’t lived unless you have a cut a swath of 275 miles across the eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and central Kansas flatlands, riding high shotgun in the saddle of an eighteen wheeler steered by a California-based, India-born Sikh driver.

Killer setlist. Stoger, I stand in awe of your commitment. Your journey to the show would make a worthy song, in addition to poem.

I would love to know Lu’s reaction to the party foul moment of the Big Head Todd fan’s comment about the Tom Petty song. 😯

I hope you were able to rest easy last night after your pilgrimmage to Salina.

    From T.O.:
First time ever playing in Salina at the wonderful Steifel Theater -beautiful sounding room-and it’s indoors so that eliminated the potential of rain and hail -which of course did happen anyway but we got a great rainbow out of it.
Live debuts of 2 of the new covers we’ve working on, Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s Up Above My Head (I Hear Music In The Air) and Have Love Will Travel by the Sonics-a fun little 60’s rocker that Lu is really digging. Those two debuts bring the count to 83 but I may have to go back and add Jan. to year, as I don’t think it was included when the count started.
