Hello, sportsfans! Lu, the band and special guests hit tonight out of the park. A fitting start to Thanksgiving weekend.

First, again with the tuning of Lu’s rose guitar pre-show, without it making an appearance during the show! Is someone trying to hurt me?? As Lu would say, “You’ve got to make the most of what equipment you’ve got”! Maybe next time.

Lu takes the stage to an enthusiastic crowd…

Blessed

The Night’s Too Long

Pineola

Drunken Angel

People Talkin’. A first for me hearing Stu play this one!

– “Stand Right” (Lu introduces this song as such, so I will use her designation). After this song, Lu comments that it’s hard to “strip down” the songs on the new album, but “anyway you get the concept.” Not sure if this was a self-deprecating comment, but from where I sat, it was bliss. Stoger notes that the first six songs are from different albums.

Compassion (“This is a good one to take with you as you sit down at the table with other family members.”)

As I Look at the World (solo). Now THIS is a Thanksgiving song, IMHO, folks!

Lake Charles (Lu & Stu… a beauty, as always.) Lu says “I wrote this song for Clyde”… poignant.

There’s a funny exchange between Lu and David here when she asks him, “Do you wanna do that one?” and he responds, “What, I’m in charge now??” 🙂

Wrong Number. Lu shares that this is another song written for her “prodigal brother,” whom she hasn’t “seen or heard from in 10 years.” She says, “It could be about anybody, that that’s what inspired the song.” Devastating.

Concrete and Barbed Wire (“I wrote this after the Berlin Wall came down and turned it into a love song.”)

Tom is in the wings of the audience and gets a big ole loving smile from Lu… those crazy kids!

Are You Down. Yes, we were all down.

Something Wicked This Way Comes. (Something wicked that way went!)

Protection

Atonement. Lu and Stu preach and totally represent on this song. Again, here I wish that this were not a seated venue… This song begged for more movement than the cramped chairs allowed. Love the lyric: “Bite down hard till it sticks between your teeth.”

Righteously

Essence. Butch and Stu slaughter this.

Honey Bee. You know, this song could be the theme song for a ‘Save the Honey Bee Movement’ 🙂

====================

Jackson, with Jim Lauderdale (!!), singer/songwriter/guitarist and all around great guy for the ages. Lu introduces him as her “favorite singer/songwriter of all time.” Long story, but Jim’s the reason my son goes to the Quaker school that he does.

– Jailhouse Tears, with Jim Lauderdale (!!). It seemed like every woman in the audience could relate to this song 🙂

Come to Me Baby, with Colin Linden (!!). Lu notes she recorded this with Colin on a Howlin’ Wolf tribute album. She introduces Colin as “One of my favorite people of all time and favorite guitar players.”

Joy

Get Right With God.

Fashion report: Lu sports a SWEET rhinestone belt buckle; again, as befits a Queen. It had green, pink and CAROLINA BLUE flowers. Her sparkly purple nail polish matched Butch’s purple tie… yes, I may not be able to find the title to my car, but I commit stuff like this to memory.

Thanks to Lu and the guys for switching the sets up so much during the Nashville three-fer (and during the tours generally). It can’t be easy for them, but it’s such a treat for the fans. Please supplement, those who were there!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Let’s eat!!!

Simply outstanding report vmorris. You have the gift of capturing all the neat details much like you did at the Saxahapaw shows last year.
I had a premonition that Jim Lauderdale would join Lu on stage much like last year when he finished up performing in Bristol, TN or is it VA and made it to 3rd & Lindsley on time.
I’ve seen Blackie and the Rodeo Kings a couple of times here in Canada, but the most recent time was in Toronto wherein stoger and I attended the co-billing Lu show with Levon Helm and Colin was present.

This tour has simply been outstanding with a wide variety of setlists.
To all my FF friends in the USA have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay at home with family, friends tonight and don’t get caught in the mad pre-Black Friday shopping this evening.

Fine work, Viv: just two additions to those who might be interested. Lu mentioned reading the stories of Flannery O’Connor as a child, just before doing “Atonement.” And among the many things she said in front of “Stand Right” (sic) were that certain songs are “hard to replicate” live from the studio environment.

Kristin Diable is to look out for (and to look AT, fort that matter): new one out via Thirty Tigers early next years, produced by ___ Cobb, who produced Jason Isbell’s Southeastern. By her own definition, her surname translates as “female devil.”

My shout-out too to our Des Moines couple: see you In MN.

Thanks for the reports, all! I was car jamming to “Stand Right By Me” on my Nashville trek on Monday. I hope Lu doesn’t give up on this song.

All reports point to an amazing three night stand in Music City. I hope everyone stays warm as you head north for the remainder of this tour.

Nice pun on “give up on. . .”, Lafayette!

A big THANK YOU to our set list reporters from City Winery, and to everyone who posts the set lists. We saw the effort that went into just taking the notes. This is some serious stuff. You guys/ladies are the best. Happy Holidays.

Thanks DDinNJ!
From T.O.:
“The Grand Finale in Nashville having a lot to say between songs. So much fun having our good friends Jim Lauderdale and Colin Linden sit in for the encore. Hope everyone had a great Turkey Day. “
