The free makeup show preview as reported by the Chicago Tribune with a few more details some of which already covered by FF members samishseaMike and tonyg in another thread.
Venue capacity is about 250 approximating Lu’s 2 night stand at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis.
Certainly some lucky fans last night who followed Facebook.http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-lucinda-williams-plays-makeup-show-after-taste-cancellation-20140712,0,5748440.story?track=rss

Lots of fun watching the impromptu show being put together via FaceBook and Twitter..
Perhaps “Reggies” just earned regular stop status in the windy city…Very few other performers, band members and managers would work so hard at making sure “the show goes on” than Lucinda, the band and Tom.
Bravo!July 13, 2014 at 7:51 pm #53242stogerParticipantWow that’s exciting. Was Doug up there after all? South State St. is the area of several of the fabled blues clubs, no? I too commend “management” for scrambling to salvage the visit to the Windy City, and for Forum members who transferred the news from Facebook and Twitter.
July 14, 2014 at 2:46 am #53243LafayetteParticipantLucinda (and management) never cease to amaze.
ALSO, ya gotta love social media!
On a side note, I was in Somerset, KY at a music festival, and my brother texted me telling me about the cancellation. He had plans on attending the Taste to see Lu. I did a quick check in the forum and saw tonyg’s post about the impromptu show, texted my brother the info, with him replying they had just made dinner plans with friends, and the venue was 40 minutes on the other side of town and he didn’t think they could make it in time. It really would have been cool had he been able to make the show. Meanwhile, tonight, he’s at City Winery seeing the Heartless Bastards for his birthday. He LOVES Erika and has had tickets for weeks.
Rock on, Lu!
July 15, 2014 at 5:04 pm #53244LWjettaParticipantLu does this impromptu gig using borrowed equipment from the Hard Rock Hotel and Reggies.

So who was in the band ” Doug P’ or Stuart M.

Perhaps Val M?
July 15, 2014 at 8:43 pm #53246LafayetteParticipantI can say with certitude it was not Stuart M and it doesn’t look like Doug P either. I found a photo on instagram, but couldn’t copy or save the photo to my hard drive as a .jpeg.
Here is the instagram link, not sure it will open even if one has an instagram account, however, I took a photo of the instagram shot with my phone, sending it to my email, and then uploading to my photobucket account. There is more than one way to skin a cat. 😛 …and I would bet there is a simpler method, but this works for me.
July 15, 2014 at 8:55 pm #53247LafayetteParticipantJuly 15, 2014 at 9:55 pm #53248tonygKeymasterIt’s Doug.
July 15, 2014 at 10:08 pm #53249LafayetteParticipantI knew he was in town from his facebook post, this just doesn’t look like him. Maybe the hair is longer?…
Anyway, thanks for confirming!
July 15, 2014 at 10:09 pm #53250tonygKeymasterHe has been wearing his hair a tad difererently of late. Might be a shadow or 2 involved there as well.
July 15, 2014 at 11:22 pm #53251LWjettaParticipantAnother review, this time from WXRT FM

I You tubed Doug and agree with tonyg’s hair style comment, so here we go.
1. A flashback to Woodstock 1999 with Jewel, song is “Race Car Driver” in front of a “small” audience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyfEFGZDEgE2.Doug performing “Love Sick” at Top Tunes May 31, 2014
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Etd27ouejCo3. And the best to view, a full 1/2 hour interview with Doug on June 7, 2014 in the Netherlands.(Lots and lots of Lu references including the Love Band.)

July 16, 2014 at 12:41 am #53253tonygKeymasterGood stuff LWj. I’m sure you noticed Steve Poltz on the other guitar and Brady Blade on drums with Jewel. You may not have noticed I was in amongst the 50 people or so at the Top Tune show. Taras P. is doing Top Tune this month.
July 17, 2014 at 1:31 am #53254LWjettaParticipantAnother pic from Reggie’s confirming Mr. Pettibone’s presence.
This Chicago gig sure has been fun to report on. Bless Lu and gang for trooping on with the music.
