I leave today for the Bay Area to attend 3 shows by Tim Flannery and the Lunatic Fringe. Tim is a former MLB player for San Diego who coaches 3rd base for the SF Giants and is a lifelong musician. He will be doing 4 benefit shows for Brian Stow, the SF Giants fan who was beaten to near death at Dodger Stadium a couple years back. Tim is pals with Bob Weir and I expect he will show up. Tim is also very close friends with Doug Pettibone and Doug will join the band as well as play a song from his new CD Gone; the song Sugar. For those of you in the area, here are the dates:

    1/23 Redwood City
    1/24 Mill Valley
    1/25 Santa Clara
    1/26 Los Gatos

I also get to visit my cousins in SF during the days. If anyone needs me (never happened before) I will be up there. 8)

Apparently Bob was in Mexico with his band, Lefty.

A mid tour report will be inflicted on you. The Redwood City show Thursday and the show last night in Mill Valley were both awesome. Exuberant crowds, mostly comprised of San Francisco fans. I pity them, they had a shitty year but they were happy to see Tim and his band. 2 hour shows. Stuff auctioned off for Brian Stow. Tim’s band consists of a guitarist banjo player named Sean, a fiddle player who played with Eric Clapton, the bass player Dean Smith played guitar with Captain Beefheart, no drummer, 2 singers one of whom named Barbara Nesbitt who has sung with Willie Nelson, and Doug. Doug spends most of the night on pedal steel and lap slide, but plays lead guitar on a couple songs.

After 2 days driving the streets of San Francisco and one day in Sausolito, and 2 trips across the Golden Gate Bridge, I don’t need to do that again any time soon. Tonight’s show is in Santa Cruz and so far the day has been tension free. News bulletins will be posted as needed. 😀

Last nights Santa Cruz show was great. Each night has seen a smaller venue. First a 1000 seat theater, followed by a 300 capacity bar, and last night a 200 seat space. Late night revelry followed. Bleary eyed, I leave for the airport shortly. The bands final show is tonight in Los Gatos but I will be home, horizontal. 8)
