The venue desscription at this huge festival.
For the second in our new series of Q&As with the organisers of Glastonbury’s fields, stages and venues, we hear from the Acoustic Stage’s Area Organiser, Stuart Witcombe.
1. How would you describe your area of the Festival to someone who hasn’t visited it before?
The Acoustic field is dominated by our fantastic Kayam tent. It’s a stunning affair with six huge spires reaching over 50 feet into the air. The field has a sort of village green atmosphere, with lots of beautiful flags, and plenty of places to sit down. Quality food can be enjoyed at, probably, the most impressive cafe on site, a two story timber built construction, brought down to Glastonbury every year, called Common Ground. It’s very impressive, and wouldn’t look at all out of place in the Swiss Alps. We even have acinema tent, it’s a proper cinema too, with an amazing sound system, showing bang up to date movies, some of which are even in 3D. Last, but by no means least, you’re never more that a few steps from a decent pint.2. Have you made any changes/additions for this year?
We’ve really pushed the boat out on the decor in the main venue this year. It’s always a bit of a challenge because it’s so big, but thanks to the enthusiasm of my decor and lighting people, I think it’s going to look amazing.
The Tent:Lu is closing the Festival from 22:30 to 23:30 local time or 21:30 to 22:30 GMT 😆

anyone found footage of lucinda at glasto? i watched a fair bit on tv and have checked out bbciplayer but nada. playing at same time as the stones probably did not help!
Top effort with the research LWjetta, great to see that pic. As for this year’s festival it doesn’t look like the Beeb showed up for the Acoustic Stage…

Looks like I got it mixed up about the Stones in my Liverpool post, they played on the Sat night not the Sun. Anyway I recorded the main BBC2 four hour highlights show for the Sunday and speed-watched in the early hours after getting back, there was absolutely nothing from Lucinda in it. 😥
So she did play the tent set, right? “Beeb” is unclear to me. At any rate, thanks for the memories lwj. Where was the bold fan in Gateshead who could have shouted out “Wild and Blue?”
Mr. Stoger, “Beeb”, to the Brits, is BBC. Translation, the BBC did not televise from the acoustic tent.
There is a lengthy article on Rolling Stone online about the festival but nary a word about Lu. Nary! 8)

apparently bbc do not film in the acoustic tent, so looks like lu’s performance has been lost to history.

I went over to catch some of Lucinda’s set on Sunday night at Glastonbury, we got there through “Drunken Angel”.
I am really new to her music but what a gift it has been to me in these last ten days, I read an article in my national newspaper in Scotland about her upcoming concert in Edinburgh on 24/06/2013, liked the interview and started listening with “Fancy Funeral”, immediately I recognised the voice from a duet she once did with Elvis Costello called “Theres a story in your voice” which I now understand was written for her.
I got some tickets and went along to the gig. I didn’t think that the set did her songs and voice a great deal of justice but I enjoyed the show tremendously. The grungy, minimalist style of set took a bit of getting used to from the warm production of her recordings.
Anyways,the part of the set I caught at Glastonbury was ok, not inspiring or inspired.I am continuing to work through Lucinda’s back catalogue, I just listened to “If wishes were horses”….what a great song.

If you want to give me some pointers, that would be greatthanks for this, johnd. “Circles and X’s” from the same record is a good companion piece to “If Wishes,” but you are doing the right thing by working through the catalogue.
Anybody recognize “There’s a Story in Your Voice” song? Was it written by Costello?
