I’m somewhat surprised no one else here has mentioned this, but I stumbled onto a YouTube video of a singer/ songwriter named Zachary Scot Johnson covering Lucinda’s “Essence” album in its entirety. It’s incredible. He plays a half dozen or more instruments and has an amazing Elvis Costello-like voice. He uses a loop pedal to play multiple instruments on the same song for some of them. My favorite is “Get Right With God”, he plays a bunch of instruments on that one. Looks like he does a song every day. Some are originals, but most are covers. I ended up listening to a lot of them because he’s pretty damn good. Besides Lucinda, he’s also done 2 Patty Griffin albums in their entirety and also Neil Young week, Bob Dylan week, Mary Gauthier week, etc. He’s done a lot of covers of others (it’s been nearly 275 straight days) and seems to have awesome taste, especially for someone so young. I glanced at his website and it looks like he’s a midwest guy mostly, but plays out west some, too. He’s played with some great ones, too. I’ll give individual links for the “Essence” album tracks. Some of them have over a 100, 000 views. He’s really good and worth a checking out.
