This is , I believe the third time at Fabrik, which we are told is a former WW2 bomb factory.
The setlist above is almost correct except bleeding Fingers was before Change The Locks. There was some between song talk that got rather colorful -especially when she felt it got too loud on stage once she picked the electric gtr. The best was toward the end when she was felling apologetic -and I think it was after Essence she said “everybody always wonders who all these songs are about but in the end I guess they’re really about me. You see sometimes I’m a mess, but I’m a beautiful mess”.

Strange concert :
I havent seen Lucinda Williams in a few years and was shocked ,how bad she looked.
As for the concert,neither good nor real bad, her voice was partly gone after 30 min or so….
Routine all over, but I had hoped , the three musicians would interact better.To me it was a shame ,how she talked to her guitar tech,real bad behavior and odd looks in the audience.
About two years ago I have seen Cowboy Junkies in this venue, a lot ,lot better.
Well, I think, she has problems, and it could have been worse, anyhow, not sure yet, if I want to see her again.

As a side note, constructive criticism is one thing, downright rude remarks are another.
I have seen her at Fabrik in 2003, hopefully not in company of that poster of rude nonsense in this thread.
Berlin sounded worth flying over two days in advance!

Being a big fan of Lu’s work for about 20 years now I might be a little bit prejudiced… Whatever – reading Wolfgang’s disappointed notes made me laugh. Ain’t it funny how different human perception can be? He (or me) seemed to be somewhere else. This is what I experienced: a happy smile was turned on after a few seconds and stayed in my face even until I was on my way back home to Düsseldorf. It was thrilling to hear all these wonderful songs in a “reduced “version, accompanied just by the outstanding musicians Sutton and Pettibone. Even the moment when she got “nervous and paranoid” was interesting, because it gave a good impression of her perfectionism. And finally she handled it with humor and self-irony (and ignored the idiot that yelled “Ei wont tu hier samm mjusic!” while she was trying to solve the sound-problem). Well, the angry version of the Skip James-cover was not really the highlight of the evening, but the anger was understandable. A real highlight was “I Look At The World”. I didn’t know this song yet – it blew me away. Finally, the “Gospel”-version of “Get Right With God”, including the “happy dance”, played in this church-like hall with the gallery, was simply magic. I left the building thankful, satisfied and enriched.
Having been at two Tift Merritt-concerts this year I thought no concert would reach a similar level of heart-touching intensity for a long time, but at that time I didn’t know yet that the One And Only would come around… 😉@stoger: I forgot to mention: Fabrik 2003 was my first being-part-of-the-audience-moment. Legendary! It was so cute when she failed with the intro of “Side Of The Road” (my all-time-favoured song)… It took me a month of work to convince my brother to come along with me, and the classical pianist had to admit afterwards (reluctantly) that it was great and about something (real life maybe?). Our discussion about music and what music is about ended at 4.30 in the morning (“Happy Woman Blues”, the last missing record, in heavy rotation on the CD-player)… The buddy I went with to the Fabrik two weeks ago also had been there 10 years ago (I didn’t know him then)… if these artists would know how they influence others people’s life… wow, frightening… and damn it: Berlin seems to have been better.
(semi) off topic: Elvis Costello comes around (to Düsseldorf) – of course I bought a ticket immediately and listened to a recording of the “Crossroads”-Radio-Show with Lucinda. It’s so funny, because a friend of mine is a prophet of “Britpop”,
as I am one of “Americana”, and here we got the missing link! Loooking forward!!!That Crossroads episode is TV as well as radio, Elvis praising Lu’s songwriting and her modestly saying she has not been all that prolific, among other comments. At the Fabrik in ’03, a young man told me about the best record store in Hamburg, which I tripped the next day to buy World Without Tears in vinyl (bonus tracks) and tote it around in my luggage for the duration. Good memories, not bitter ones at all.
“… but these fifty are real good ones” or so. Love it!
